Description

You’ve led large teams, built systems from scratch, and made high-stakes calls in moments that mattered. You don’t need oversight. You need a mission. This is it.

We're building a next-generation school system where kids complete a full day of academics in just two hours. The rest of their day is spent mastering real-world skills, not memorizing facts. Your job is to make sure they’re safe. Every hour. On every campus. Without turning schools into prisons.

As the senior-most security leader in the organization, you’ll design and lead physical security operations across more than 25 campuses nationwide. You'll evaluate existing systems, identify what’s broken, and build what works -- crisis response protocols, vendor oversight, and audit frameworks included.

This isn’t a traditional security job. You won’t be running drills or filing reports. You’ll be shaping how modern school safety is defined and scaled, balancing serious threat prevention with invisible, trauma-aware systems that preserve the student experience.

Whether you're a corporate security exec tired of red tape or an elite military officer ready to lead in the private sector, this role gives you the one thing most others won’t: full ownership.

What you will be doing

  • Leading the end-to-end design, implementation, and scaling of physical security across a growing national school network.
  • Conducting site audits, identifying key risks, and prioritizing actionable fixes across infrastructure, staffing, and systems.
  • Managing vendors and technology (e.g., cameras, access control, alarms) to ensure consistent, high-functioning performance.
  • Serving as incident commander during security events — coordinating response, managing comms, and running postmortems.
  • Creating and training staff on usable, trauma-aware protocols that work under stress and align with local emergency responders.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Enforcing heavy-handed security theater that disrupts learning — your systems will be smart, discreet, and effective.
  • Managing status-quo vendors who underperform — you’ll set a new bar and replace what doesn’t work.
  • Sitting in endless meetings without action — every deliverable you own drives operational execution.

Key responsibilities

Design and own the systems that keep 25+ campuses — and thousands of students — safe from external threats, without compromising the learning experience.

Candidate requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience leading physical security across multiple sites in high-accountability environments
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and enforce security protocols from scratch
  • Demonstrated crisis leadership, with experience coordinating real-time incident response across internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including navigating high-stakes conversations with senior leaders, vendors, and front-line staff
  • Comfortable operating with limited guidance and high expectations
  • Based in the U.S. and willing to travel between campuses
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background in school safety or education-adjacent environments
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in criminal justice, public safety, emergency management, or related field
