The Ruby on Rails Software Engineering Manager will serve as a key member of our global executive team, should have the ability to multi-task, be organized to meet tight deadlines and be extremely process focused on excelling in a fast-paced environment and delivering high-quality products.

As a team leader, you will be responsible for building and managing a high-performance team, running deep dives and using your proficiency to conduct tech reviews, improve productivity and guide a global talented pool of professionals to solve business problems continuously.

We are looking for hands-on leaders with a robust Cloud background, who are comfortable with aggressive weekly targets and have the ability to leverage their technical depth to set the standard for software engineering excellence.


Deliver regular product releases across multiple, complex software products

Establish world-class standards and technical operations to deliver high-quality products through team members located in different timezones

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (MS or Ph.D. preferred) is mandatory

10+ years of experience in hands-on software development/engineering

3+ years experience leading software development teams

Experience in managing teams of 10+ people

3+ years of experience releasing software products within a CI/CD environment

Hands-on experience in Ruby on Rails architecture and programming

Experience in Software Engineering focused instead of product management

Proven experience in building high-performance teams and scalable best engineering practices

Excellent understanding of current enterprise software technologies and development practices/tools, including virtualization, source control, build and test automation, code quality automation technologies

Experience with high-end enterprise systems deployed in environments of Global 100 corporation complexity

Proficiency in Test Automation, AWS and TDD is desired but not mandatory

Demonstrated success as a problem solver, result-oriented, self-starter

Comfortable “working virtually” with teammates and customers around the world - we do a lot of Skype and video conferencing

Good proficiency in the English language


As a Ruby on Rails Software Engineering Manager in Crossover, you will get an opportunity to learn about the issues of managing an entirely remote workforce of up to 20 direct reports.   • Does a SEM have hands-on coding work?

    No, the SEM rarely has any hands-on coding work to do, but they are expected to have an excellent technical background and an understanding of various technologies. The SEM will leverage your development experience to resolve blockers for your teams

  • Do you use Agile?

    Like most software organizations, we make use of subsets of Agile. The one main difference is our teams are highly specialized in the task they do. For example, we have a maintenance team whose only function is to fix bugs on our products. Rather than being product specialists they are process specialists.

  • Does a SEM need to travel in his role?

    A SEM is not expected to travel as all our management is done remotely.

  • How do you perform in the role of SEM when all your individual contributors are remote?

    We use communication tools such as GoToMeeting, Zoom, Skype, and Slack. We also ensure that our processes are well documented in the form of playbooks and have developed a tool, Worksmart Pro, which enables us to keep track of time and applications used. This data allows us to form a diary of how our contributors spend their day and coach them on improving productivity.

  • How large are the teams managed by a SEM?

    Typical team sizes are 5-20 people. We believe in having small, global teams.
