As VP of Engineering you will lead one of our engineering teams or products. You will be working with the top 1% of global engineering talent developing software that follows our best practices in design patterns and architectural principles.
The VP of Engineering will manage a team of 5-15 Software Engineering Managers and ensure the team solves their challenging software problems. You will leverage your technical depth as a former developer and architect to push your team towards a high standard of technical excellence, and achieve the organization's quality bar.
Drive rigorous, and weekly product releases across multiple, complex software products
Establish world-class standards and technical operations to deliver consistent, high-quality products across dispersed, global team
Implement internal engineering management strategies to achieve world-class productivity and cost efficiency
Engage with customers and product managers to ensure that product delivery obsessively aligns with customer value creation
Transform existing teams of engineers, architects and development managers into a highly effective engineering function, including upgrading and reorganizing talent as required
Engage and align top talent through strong recruitment, mentoring, hands-on architectural leadership and career management
Potentially lead product technical due diligence and engineering talent assessments in companies which we are going to acquire
Transform acquired engineering teams into an effective and efficient global model to increase quality and reduce cost over pre-acquisition benchmarks
As a VP of Engineering in our organization, you will learn what it takes to handle aggressive growth where we measure success on a daily and weekly basis. You will learn the importance of deep dives to resolve problems with your teams as well as the importance of managing your team on a daily basis against quarterly set quantifiable goals which deliver real business value.
You will learn to measure and track output and results and how to automate everything that you do. You will learn how to overcome the challenges of managing a fully remote workforce of between 50 to 250 Engineers and Software Managers.

How do you perform in the role of VP of engineering when all your teams are remote?
We use communication tools such as GoToMeeting, Zoom, Skype, and Slack. We also ensure that our processes are well documented in the form of playbooks and have developed a tool, Worksmart Pro, which enables us to keep track of time and applications used. This data allows us to form a diary of how our partners spend their day and coach them on improved productivity.
Do you use Agile?
Like most organizations, we make use of subsets of Agile. The one key difference though is that our teams are highly specialized in the task they do. For example, we have a maintenance team whose only job is to fix bugs on our products. Rather than being product specialists, our teams are process specialists.
Do VPs of Engineering actually do hands-on coding in this role?
No, there is no hands-on work. However, we want people who have been developers in the past. We believe that the best way you can help and communicate with your teams is if you have experienced technical problems yourself.
Does a VP of Engineering need to travel in his role?
A VP of Engineering is not expected to travel as all our management is done remotely.
