You've spent years mastering structured literacy. You can hear a student's miscue and know exactly which phonemic gap to target. But you've also watched the system around you waste that expertise: 25+ students in a room, rigid pacing guides, one-size-fits-all curricula that ignore what your running records are telling you. If you've ever thought "I could double these kids' growth if I could just teach the way the data says to," keep reading.

Alpha School's 2-Hour Learning model fuses AI-adaptive software with expert human instruction. Students complete academic coursework independently through personalized apps. There are no lectures, no textbooks, no pacing guides. Your role is the one place where a human expert is irreplaceable: small-group reading workshops where you design and deliver structured literacy instruction tailored to each student's phonics and decoding level. You'll use real-time AI-generated performance data to plan each session, adjust on the fly, and measure outcomes in fluency gains, accuracy improvements, and decoding advancement.

Beyond reading workshops, you'll run motivation sessions that keep K-2 students engaged with their learning goals. You'll be their coach, their cheerleader, the person who knows their name, their interests, and exactly where they are in their reading journey. The target: 100% of students hit their weekly goals, and 90%+ rate their Guide as someone they love working with. This isn't about coverage; it's about results you can see and measure every single week. As Alpha expands to new campuses, what you build here becomes the model for reading instruction nationwide.

If you believe structured literacy works best when it's personalized, data-driven, and delivered by someone who genuinely lights up a room full of six-year-olds, this is where that belief becomes the job. Apply today.

What you will be doing

  • Designing and leading small-group reading workshops focused on systematic phonics, decoding, and writing for K-2 students
  • Administering and analyzing running records to assess each student's reading level and plan targeted instruction
  • Interpreting AI-generated student performance data to adjust instruction in real time, not just during pre-planning
  • Running motivation sessions that help students advance in their learning apps and hit 100% of weekly goals
  • Differentiating instruction across focused reading groups based on individual learning styles and needs

What you will NOT be doing

  • Following a published reading program or scripted curriculum (you design your own lessons based on student data)
  • Lecturing to a full classroom (all instruction happens in small, focused groups)
  • Teaching academic subjects (students complete math, science, and other coursework independently via adaptive apps)
  • Managing a traditional classroom schedule with bells, transitions, and standardized pacing guides
  • Grading homework or report cards (student progress is tracked through app data and running records)

Key responsibilities

Deliver structured literacy instruction that measurably accelerates K-2 reading outcomes across phonics, fluency, and decoding.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • Master's in reading instruction OR structured literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, UFLI, or similar)
  • 2+ years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical setting using systematic phonics or structured literacy, within the last 5 years
  • Experience designing original reading lessons (not solely relying on a published program)
  • Willingness to use AI and adaptive learning tools for instructional planning and student data analysis
  • Willingness to work in-person at an Alpha School campus in one of the listed locations
  • Willingness to work with all K-2 students, not only struggling readers
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience using AI or adaptive learning tools (e.g., Lexia, i-Ready, Amira) for instructional planning or student data analysis
  • Track record of measuring and articulating specific reading outcomes from interventions (e.g., fluency gains in WCPM, decoding level advancement)
  • Experience working in non-traditional or innovative school models (charter, micro-school, Montessori, hybrid)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
