Facility Operations Specialist $60,000USD/year ($30 USD/hour)

Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a full-time, in-person employee position located at Alpha's Austin, TX campus. Relocation assistance is available.

Are you ready to revolutionize the way school facilities operate? At Alpha Schools, we're not just maintaining buildings – we're crafting environments where learning thrives and innovation flourishes. You'll be the mastermind behind the scenes, ensuring that our campuses are not just functional but exceptional.

Imagine a role where you're part tech guru, part maintenance wizard, and part relationship builder. You'll be the linchpin that keeps our multi-campus operations running smoothly, from managing cutting-edge educational technology to coordinating with top-notch vendors. Your day might start with troubleshooting a Smart Board in one classroom and end with negotiating a new landscaping contract – all while ensuring our satellite campuses receive the same stellar support as those nearby.

This isn't your average facilities job. We're looking for someone who sees beyond the day-to-day repairs and envisions how each task contributes to creating an inspiring educational environment. You'll be empowered to implement innovative solutions, whether that's streamlining our maintenance processes or introducing new technology to enhance our operations.

If you're passionate about education, thrive on variety, and have a talent for juggling multiple priorities without breaking a sweat, this role is tailor-made for you. Join us in our mission to redefine what's possible in educational facilities management!

What you will be doing

  • Overseeing facility maintenance across campuses, coordinating both in-house repairs and outsourced specialized services (HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
  • Managing and maintaining the technology infrastructure, ensuring systems like computers, Smart Boards, and tech devices are up-to-date and functional.
  • Building and maintaining strong vendor relationships, ensuring cost-effective and timely delivery of services.
  • Providing remote operational and technical support for campuses outside the primary region, troubleshooting issues and coordinating remote maintenance as needed.
  • Proactively monitoring and addressing potential facility and technology issues before they disrupt the learning environment.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Performing routine janitorial tasks or cleaning services.
  • Reacting to issues after they cause disruption—this is a proactive role.
  • Handling major repairs or issues outside your specialization without involving expert vendors.
  • Overlooking budget constraints or neglecting cost-efficient vendor negotiations.

Key responsibilities

Ensure all school campuses are maintained to a high standard, supporting a technology-enabled, efficient, and safe learning environment through effective facility and vendor management.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to work in-person in Austin, TX, or willing to relocate (relocation assistance is available.)
  • Ability to travel between campuses in the Austin metro area during work hours.
  • At least 3 years of experience in facility or building maintenance, preferably in educational or tech-centric environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to computers and smart tech devices.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with internal staff, vendors, and remote teams.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Authorization to work in the US without visa sponsorship.
