Director of Academics   $400,000 USD/year

Description

You’ve defined a bold academic vision before and owned the outcomes. You’ve led from the front, not from behind the scenes. And when it comes to learning science, you’re not dabbling. You’ve built something real, driven results that prove it works, and earned the right to stand on stage and tell the story. If this sounds like you, 2 Hour Learning is looking for its academic north star.

At 2 Hour Learning, we’ve engineered a model where students learn twice as fast in just two hours a day. AI tutors, mastery-based progression, and a radical departure from conventional classroom structures drive these outcomes. The results are exceptional. Now we’re looking for a leader who can unify execution across diverse school models, raise the bar on academic leadership, and become the external voice of a movement grounded in rigorous learning science.

This is not an academic theory role. It’s a leadership mandate. You’ll own the academic strategy in practice, set clear standards, identify execution gaps, and coach top-tier teams to deliver real outcomes. You’ll translate our scientific foundations into operational discipline and make the case for this model to the world.

What you will be doing

  • Creating academic frameworks that translate learning science into practical guidance for curriculum, motivation systems, and app design.
  • Leading academic execution reviews across Heads of Academics to ensure school teams are aligned, accountable, and delivering results.
  • Synthesizing data, interviews, and observation into academic ecosystem reviews that spotlight the highest-leverage barriers to accelerated learning and propose actionable interventions.
  • Driving strategic alignment through planning, feedback loops, and milestone tracking to maintain focus on student learning goals.
  • Representing 2 Hour Learning at the highest levels, from keynote stages to sessions with Ministries of Education, driving systemic change in how the world thinks about school.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Tinkering with isolated curriculum projects without driving systemic change.
  • Publishing abstract research with no line of sight to student results or execution.
  • Delegating performance accountability to middle managers or consultants.
  • Relying on brand reputation or theory to persuade skeptical stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

Scale and elevate 2 Hour Learning’s proven academic model by unifying execution across schools, strengthening leadership standards, and becoming the public voice of a movement grounded in rigorous science and real-world results.

Candidate requirements

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Learning Science, Educational Psychology, Instructional Design, or a related field
  • 7+ years leading academic or EdTech teams with evidence of exceptional learning outcomes
  • Proven experience applying AI or technology to accelerate learning
  • Track record of public thought leadership such as media, keynotes, books, or advising
  • Strong performance management skills with the ability to hold elite peers to a high bar
  • Fluent in interpreting data to diagnose learning issues and direct interventions
  • Comfortable engaging directly with students, parents, and school leaders

Nice to have

  • Founded or led an innovative school model, lab school, or high-performing EdTech venture
  • Experience navigating cultural, political, or international education contexts
  • Deep familiarity with Bloom’s 2 Sigma research and other mastery learning frameworks
