Reading Specialist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize the turning point. That instant when a student transitions from uncertainty to reading with purpose. They meet your eyes and say, "I've got this." If that moment is what you want to create daily, this is where you belong.

Unbound operates as a remote-first online school designed for genuine progress, not hours logged. We are rethinking student learning so they advance more quickly, find joy in the journey, and graduate with measurable confidence.

In most weeks, you will conduct high-impact intervention sessions. During the remainder, you will facilitate brief motivation check-ins that maintain student momentum and goal achievement. This position fits individuals who value independence, rapid feedback cycles, and visible results. It does not suit those seeking a rigid template or who avoid working with data.

If your goal is to support struggling readers in achieving substantial progress—and you value the flexibility to customize your methods for each learner—we would welcome the opportunity to connect.

What you will be doing

  • Create and facilitate virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for students in grades 3–8
  • Leverage reading assessment data to identify fluency and comprehension gaps and modify instruction rapidly
  • Adapt activities to accommodate multiple reading levels, including interventions for dyslexia and associated reading challenges
  • Monitor progress using clear, consistent methods and apply the data to inform subsequent sessions
  • Facilitate structured motivation check-ins that cultivate confidence, perseverance, and pride in development

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large, whole-class lessons or present from a rigid curriculum
  • Adhere to a pre-written program without responding to student needs and immediate feedback
  • Function as a passive "software monitor" lacking meaningful instruction and relationship-building
  • Depend on superficial rewards that fail to cultivate lasting motivation

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of outcomes for grades 3–8—quantifiable improvements in fluency and comprehension—through personalized virtual interventions and motivational support that fosters confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Available to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona as needed.
