Virtual Reading Specialist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize the turning point. The instant a learner stops second-guessing and begins reading with intention. They glance up and declare, "I've got this." If you're drawn to that experience daily, this environment will suit you.

Unbound is a remote-first online school designed around genuine progress, not hours logged. We're restructuring the way students engage with learning so they advance more quickly, find satisfaction in the journey, and graduate with verifiable confidence.

In a typical week, you'll facilitate high-impact intervention sessions. During the remainder, you'll conduct brief motivational check-ins that ensure students stay aligned and reach their targets. This position fits individuals who value independence, rapid feedback cycles, and tangible results. It's unsuitable for anyone seeking a rigid template or hesitant to work with data.

If your goal is to support struggling readers in achieving substantial progress—and you desire the latitude to customize your methods for each learner—we're eager to connect.

What you will be doing

  • Plan and execute virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for learners in grades 3–8
  • Leverage reading assessment data to address fluency and comprehension deficits and modify instruction rapidly
  • Adapt activities across varied reading levels, including accommodations for dyslexia and associated reading challenges
  • Monitor progress in a transparent, systematic manner and apply the data to inform subsequent sessions
  • Facilitate structured motivational check-ins that cultivate confidence, perseverance, and satisfaction in advancement

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large, whole-class instruction or present from a static curriculum
  • Adhere to a pre-written program without adjusting to learner needs and live feedback
  • Function as a passive "software supervisor" without substantive teaching and relationship-building
  • Depend on superficial incentives that fail to foster enduring motivation

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of outcomes for grades 3–8—quantifiable improvements in fluency and comprehension—by providing tailored virtual interventions and motivational guidance that strengthens confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Available to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona as needed.
