Virtual Reading Specialist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize the shift. The instant a student moves from guessing to reading with intention. They meet your eyes and say, "I can do this." If that's the work you're drawn to every day, this is the right place for you.

Unbound is a remote-first online school focused on genuine progress, not hours logged. We're reimagining student learning so they advance more quickly, engage meaningfully, and graduate with measurable confidence.

Most of your time will be spent delivering high-impact intervention sessions. The remainder will involve leading brief motivational check-ins that keep students aligned and progressing toward goals. This position is designed for those who value autonomy, immediate feedback, and visible results. It is not suited to anyone seeking a rigid script or avoiding data-driven work.

If your goal is to help struggling readers achieve substantial progress—and you value the flexibility to customize your methods for each student—we want to hear from you.

What you will be doing

  • Plan and facilitate virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for students in grades 3–8
  • Apply reading assessment data to identify fluency and comprehension gaps and modify instruction in real time
  • Tailor activities to accommodate multiple reading levels, including accommodations for dyslexia and related reading challenges
  • Monitor progress using consistent, transparent methods and apply findings to inform subsequent sessions
  • Conduct structured motivational check-ins that foster confidence, perseverance, and pride in development

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large, whole-group lessons or present from a rigid curriculum
  • Execute a pre-scripted program without responding to student needs and live feedback
  • Function as a passive "software monitor" without delivering meaningful instruction and building rapport
  • Depend on superficial rewards that fail to cultivate enduring motivation

Key responsibilities

Take full ownership of outcomes for grades 3–8—measurable improvement in fluency and comprehension—through delivery of tailored virtual interventions and motivational support that cultivates confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Available to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona as needed.
