Virtual Reading Specialist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize the shift. The instant a learner stops fumbling and begins reading with intention. They meet your eyes and say, "I've got this." If that's the impact you want to create daily, this is where you belong.

Unbound is a remote-first online school designed for genuine progress, not attendance hours. We're rethinking student learning so they advance more quickly, engage more deeply, and graduate with measurable self-assurance.

In most weeks, you'll facilitate high-impact intervention work. In others, you'll conduct brief motivational touchpoints that maintain momentum and support goal attainment. This position is ideal for those who value independence, immediate feedback, and visible results. It's unsuitable for anyone seeking rigid lesson plans or avoiding performance metrics.

If you're ready to support struggling readers in achieving substantial progress—and you want the latitude to customize your methods for individual students—let's connect.

What you will be doing

  • Plan and execute virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for learners in grades 3–8
  • Leverage reading assessment data to identify fluency and comprehension deficits and modify instruction rapidly
  • Adapt activities to accommodate multiple reading levels, including specialized support for dyslexia and similar reading challenges
  • Monitor progress systematically and consistently, using the data to shape subsequent sessions
  • Facilitate structured motivational touchpoints that foster confidence, determination, and pride in development

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large, whole-group lessons or present from a standardized curriculum
  • Execute a rigidly scripted program without responding to individual learner needs and live feedback
  • Function as a passive "technology supervisor" lacking substantive instruction and rapport
  • Depend on superficial incentives that fail to cultivate enduring motivation

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of outcomes for grades 3–8—quantifiable improvements in fluency and comprehension—through personalized virtual interventions and motivational guidance that strengthens confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Available to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona as needed.
