Youth Development Specialist   $120,000 USD/year

Description

  • $120,000/year W2 salary paid weekly, with medical, dental, and vision benefits beginning on day one
  • On-site position at an Alpha campus located in Bethesda, MD; Boca Raton, FL; Boston, MA; Greenwich, CT; Malibu, CA; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach, FL; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA (relocation assistance available).

At most schools, students are asked to meet expectations. Here, you'll guide them to surpass their own.

Within every student lies more potential than they recognize. When students struggle, most adults respond by lowering standards. Your approach is different. You understand that confidence doesn't emerge from praise alone—it's forged when someone achieves what they previously believed impossible. If you've ever refused to allow a student, athlete, camper, or mentee to give up on themselves, this work will resonate with you.

Alpha has redesigned education around one core principle: AI excels at academic delivery, while exceptional people excel at transforming lives. Students complete their core academics through adaptive, AI-powered learning platforms. Your role is cultivating what technology cannot—discipline, resilience, communication, ownership, focus, and the conviction that challenging pursuits are worthwhile. Your days won't revolve around lesson delivery or paper grading. Instead, you'll coach students through obstacles, acknowledge genuine progress, and guide them toward accomplishing goals they once considered unreachable.

Approximately 60% of your time involves facilitating dynamic, one-hour life skills workshops covering subjects such as public speaking, focus, leadership, and feedback exchange. About 30% is dedicated to individual or small-group coaching, leveraging Coachbot analytics to determine which students require encouragement, accountability, or alternative strategies. The final 10% is allocated to data review, coaching refinement, and preparing students for stronger performance in the week ahead. You'll begin with established workshop frameworks, then enhance and expand them as you identify more effective methods for inspiring students.

Performance is measured objectively. A minimum of 90% of your students should routinely achieve their weekly academic targets, demonstrate proficiency in Alpha's life skills via Test2Pass assessments, and provide ratings of at least 4 out of 5 for their experience with you. Maintain this standard consistently and you'll access a defined advancement path to Lead Guide, where you'll mentor other Guides, and ultimately Campus Lead, where you'll influence the culture and outcomes of an entire school.

This position isn't suitable for those seeking to lecture, adhere strictly to curriculum, or simply occupy students. It's designed for coaches, mentors, youth leaders, performers, tutors, and educators who define success by student transformation. Every candidate who reaches the final stage spends a complete day coaching actual Alpha students before an offer is extended. If that prospect excites you more than another interview, we welcome your application.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating dynamic, one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students that develop communication, resilience, focus, leadership, and additional durable competencies while continuously enhancing the workshop delivery.
  • Providing individualized and small-group coaching informed by Coachbot analytics, tailored accountability measures, and Alpha's motivational frameworks to ensure every student reaches ambitious weekly targets.
  • Evaluating life skill proficiency through Test2Pass and delivering focused coaching until each student exhibits authentic competence, not merely participation.
  • Adjusting your coaching approach for elementary and middle school students, recognizing when a kindergartner requires movement and positive reinforcement and when an eighth grader needs straightforward accountability.
  • Reviewing weekly student performance metrics to detect trends, eliminate barriers, and continuously enhance results across your entire cohort.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Conducting traditional classroom instruction. AI manages academic teaching, allowing you to concentrate on student development.
  • Grading assignments, developing lesson plans, or preparing students for standardized assessments.
  • Supervising students as they work quietly on computers. Each day is active, interactive, and coaching-centered.
  • Seeking approvals before assisting a student in need. You possess the autonomy to respond swiftly and take necessary action.
  • Handling parent communications or administrative documentation. Campus Leads oversee parent relationships, enabling you to focus on students.

Key responsibilities

Cultivate a cohort of students who reliably accomplish ambitious academic objectives, master critical life skills, and develop the confidence, resilience, and ownership necessary to thrive well beyond their time at Alpha.

Candidate requirements

  • Willing to work in person at an Alpha campus in Bethesda, MD; Boca Raton, FL; Boston, MA; Greenwich, CT; Malibu, CA; Miami, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach, FL; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA (relocation support provided)
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • At least 3 years of experience working directly with K-8 students through teaching, coaching, tutoring, mentoring, camp leadership, or youth programs
  • Ability to describe a specific example of motivating a student to achieve a difficult goal, including your approach and the outcome
  • Excited to let AI deliver academics while you focus on coaching, motivation, and life skills development
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience coaching youth sports, debate, theater, camps, after-school programs, or other performance-based activities
  • Personal record of high achievement in academics, athletics, leadership, or another competitive field
  • Strong stage presence and storytelling skills that can keep a room full of students engaged without relying on volume or discipline
  • Demonstrated success helping disengaged, resistant, or struggling students become motivated, confident learners
