Director of Construction   $400,000 USD/year

Description

LEAD THE PHYSICAL EXPANSION OF AMERICA'S FASTEST-GROWING EDUCATION REVOLUTION

2 Hour Learning is redefining K-12 education with a proven model: students achieve a full year of academic growth in just two focused hours daily. Now, we're scaling rapidly with 25-30 new campuses in the next six months.

As our Director of Construction, you'll orchestrate the physical manifestation of our vision—transforming empty spaces into vibrant learning environments that will shape the future of education across the country.

This role demands a rare combination: strategic vision paired with relentless execution. You won't just plan campus build-outs—you'll deliver them, on time and on budget, with the autonomy to make critical decisions that directly impact our national expansion.

What you will be doing

  • Lead end-to-end campus construction projects across multiple states simultaneously, maintaining aggressive timelines while ensuring quality and compliance
  • Develop standardized construction playbooks that balance speed, cost, and quality—creating replicable processes that scale with our growth
  • Negotiate and manage relationships with architects, contractors, and vendors to maximize value and minimize delays
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure facilities meet educational, regulatory, and brand requirements
  • Transform construction challenges into opportunities through creative problem-solving and decisive action

What you will NOT be doing

  • Overseeing just one project at a time—you'll manage a portfolio of concurrent builds across multiple regions
  • Following established processes—you'll create them, refine them, and scale them
  • Waiting for approvals—you'll have the authority to make critical decisions that keep projects moving
  • Focusing solely on construction—you'll need to understand how facilities support our educational model
  • Managing routine maintenance or facilities operations—your focus is on expansion and delivery

Key responsibilities

Deliver 25-30 fully operational, code-compliant, and educationally optimized campus facilities within six months—creating the physical foundation for our national expansion and enabling thousands of students to experience our revolutionary learning model.

Candidate requirements

We're seeking a construction leader with the strategic vision of a consultant and the execution capabilities of a seasoned project manager.

  • Experience at a top-tier strategy consulting firm (MBB or equivalent such as Deloitte S&O, Strategy&, EY-Parthenon, LEK, etc.)
  • 10+ years leading complex construction or real estate development projects with strict timelines
  • Proven track record managing multiple concurrent construction projects across different locations
  • Experience navigating permitting processes, building codes, and regulatory requirements across jurisdictions
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage construction budgets in the $500K-$2M per project range
  • Strong vendor management skills and ability to negotiate favorable terms with contractors
  • Comfort using AI tools to streamline processes and accelerate delivery
  • U.S. work authorization and availability to travel ~25% (about 1 week/month)
