Description

Imagine a school with no teachers. Students determine their own path, create goals they want to achieve, and actually prefer school to free time. They learn 2x faster, love school, and develop life skills. At Alpha, they are led by educators called Guides. That’s where you come in.

Just as a guide shows you the path but can’t walk for you, your job is to motivate students to set and achieve audacious goals. We believe kids are limitless. As a Guide, you will constantly provide inspiration, encouragement, and coaching for Alpha students.

The best Guides exude unparalleled enthusiasm every minute of the day! You must be an exceptional facilitator and create student-driven workshops. We understand that careers aren’t linear and that the best Guides come from a variety of backgrounds, which is why you don’t need a teaching degree for this role. In fact, we find that fresh thinking works best with our innovative approach and prefer applicants WITHOUT a traditional teaching background. All you need is a passion for learning, the ability to connect with kids, and a commitment to supporting them as they chart their path.

Alpha is a private K-12 school in the heart of Austin, TX, unlike any other: no teachers, no lectures, no traditional grades. This is an on-site position at one of our new campuses in Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, or Brownsville, TX. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, FSA, short-term and long-term disability insurance, term life insurance, and 401K.

What you will be doing

  • Motivating students to advance in their adaptive learning apps
  • Designing and running Life Skills Workshops that students love and would choose to attend over having free time

What you will NOT be doing

  • Serving as a traditional teacher; this isn’t a hierarchical teacher role
  • Creating lesson plans for core subjects like math and English. We have apps for that!
  • Operating as the authority figure, lecturing from the front of the class
  • Spending hours grading papers at night; our students set their own goals and our apps track their progress
