What if the key to unlocking reading for young kids is meeting them where they already live: in gaming culture, where leveling up, persistence, and mastery feel natural?

You will lead small-group reading workshops at a school built around the interests of young gamers, using phonics instruction, adaptive literacy apps, and coaching to help K-2 students fall in love with reading just as much as they love games.

Austin offers live music, warm winters, hill country trails, and a thriving education innovation scene that you will form part of.

Lead learning. Love growing. Apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Design and deliver small-group reading workshops for K-2 students, making phonics learning fun, engaging, and personalized
  • Adapt instruction in real time based on student needs, group reading levels, and engagement cues
  • Lead motivational check-ins with students to encourage advancement in adaptive literacy apps and achieve learning goals
  • Monitor student progress data from adaptive software and use it to differentiate instruction for each reading group
  • Use storytelling, humor, gaming analogies, and positive reinforcement to drive student persistence and overcome resistance

Candidate requirements

  • Willing to work in-person at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
  • Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or related field
  • Certification in structured literacy approaches such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or similar evidence-based phonics programs
  • 2+ years of experience delivering small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or struggling readers
  • Demonstrated ability to assess student reading levels and design differentiated instruction independently
  • Enthusiastic about video games and gaming culture, even if not a gamer yourself
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
