Chess Specialist   $75 USD/hour

Description

You did not spend years earning real chess credibility to teach the basics. You want students who listen, push back, and come back hungry. You want to build winners. If that is you, you will fit here.

GT School is built for gifted K–8 students who want “real stakes” learning, not casual enrichment. This role exists to turn gifted players into confident competitors who perform when it counts. You will lead live virtual workshops, run tournament-focused coaching, and create reusable training content that raises the bar across GT Anywhere and GT campuses.

This is not a typical chess tutoring job. GT hires proven competitors, not generalist instructors. You will work with motivated students, clear skill levels, and measurable goals. Great work here shows up in ratings gains, stronger decision-making under time pressure, and tournament results families can celebrate.

If you have elite chess achievement, can teach with clarity on camera, and want to mentor the next generation of champions, we would like to meet you.

What you will be doing

  • Run 2–4 live virtual domain workshops per week (60–90 minutes) that teach advanced strategy, tactics, and competition patterns
  • Assess each student’s level and adapt instruction so every session is hard, engaging, and confidence-building
  • Coach students for upcoming tournaments through mock games, analysis, and personalized improvement plans
  • Track student progress against benchmarks and use data from games to target the highest-leverage gaps
  • Create reusable lesson plans, puzzles, and strategy guides that other specialists can deliver consistently

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teach casual beginner lessons that do not build toward competitive outcomes
  • Spend your time in administrative meetings or slow, layered bureaucracy
  • Run generic, one-size-fits-all coaching that ignores a student’s goals and tournament calendar
  • Work without proof of impact—results and progress are the point

Key responsibilities

This role exists so gifted K–8 chess students become competition-ready and win measurable results in tournaments that prove GT School’s real-stakes promise to families.

Candidate requirements

  • Verifiable elite chess achievement (FIDE title, national/state ranking, high rating, or major tournament win)
  • At least 6 months of teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience with clear examples of student improvement
  • Ability to teach advanced concepts in simple language that gifted K–8 students can apply in games
  • Strong virtual presence and skill in running high-energy sessions over video
  • Commitment to 5–10 hours per week
  • Reliable internet and a professional video setup suitable for live instruction
  • Ability to provide credentials or a portfolio for verification
