Director of Academic Excellence   $400,000 USD/year

Description

You've articulated a clear academic vision and taken ownership of the results it produced. You've led teams directly, not from the sidelines. When it comes to learning science, you've moved beyond theory—you've created tangible systems, delivered measurable outcomes, and earned credibility to share that work publicly. If that describes your experience, 2 Hour Learning seeks its chief academic strategist.

At 2 Hour Learning, we've designed a system in which students achieve learning gains at twice the typical rate within just two hours each day. This is driven by AI-powered tutoring, mastery-based learning pathways, and a fundamental break from traditional classroom models. The outcomes speak for themselves. We now need a leader who can harmonize execution across varied school environments, elevate academic leadership standards, and serve as the public ambassador for an approach rooted in rigorous learning science.

This role is not theoretical. It's an operational leadership position. You will direct academic strategy in action, establish performance standards, surface gaps in execution, and guide high-performing teams toward consistent results. You will transform our scientific foundation into operational excellence and advocate for this model on the world stage.

What you will be doing

  • Designing academic frameworks that convert learning science principles into actionable direction for curriculum development, motivational architecture, and application design.
  • Conducting academic execution reviews with Heads of Academics to confirm alignment, accountability, and outcome delivery across all school teams.
  • Analyzing data, conducting interviews, and observing operations to produce academic ecosystem assessments that identify high-impact obstacles to accelerated learning and recommend concrete solutions.
  • Ensuring strategic coherence through planning cycles, feedback mechanisms, and progress tracking to sustain focus on student learning objectives.
  • Serving as the external face of 2 Hour Learning in high-stakes forums, including keynote presentations and discussions with Ministries of Education, to influence global perceptions of schooling.

What you will NOT be doing

  • Working on narrow curriculum updates that lack systemic impact.
  • Producing theoretical research disconnected from student outcomes or operational implementation.
  • Handing off accountability for team performance to mid-level managers or external advisors.
  • Depending on institutional credibility or conceptual frameworks to win over skeptical audiences.

Key responsibilities

Expand and strengthen 2 Hour Learning's validated academic model by aligning execution across all school sites, raising leadership performance standards, and serving as the authoritative public advocate for a movement founded on rigorous learning science and demonstrable results.

Candidate requirements

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Learning Science, Educational Psychology, Instructional Design, or a related field
  • 7+ years leading academic or EdTech teams with evidence of exceptional learning outcomes
  • Proven experience applying AI or technology to accelerate learning
  • Track record of public thought leadership such as media, keynotes, books, or advising
  • Strong performance management skills with the ability to hold elite peers to a high bar
  • Fluent in interpreting data to diagnose learning issues and direct interventions
  • Comfortable engaging directly with students, parents, and school leaders

Nice to have

  • Founded or led an innovative school model, lab school, or high-performing EdTech venture
  • Experience navigating cultural, political, or international education contexts
  • Deep familiarity with Bloom's 2 Sigma research and other mastery learning frameworks
