What you will be doing
- Create and facilitate small-group literacy sessions for K-2 learners, transforming phonics instruction into engaging, customized experiences
- Modify teaching methods on the fly according to student requirements, reading proficiency, and behavioral signals
- Conduct motivational one-on-ones with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy platforms and meet educational milestones
- Track learner performance metrics from adaptive technology and apply findings to tailor instruction for individual reading groups
- Employ narrative techniques, humor, game-based metaphors, and affirmative feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Able to work on-site at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or related discipline
- Certification in structured literacy methods such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics frameworks
- 2+ years of hands-on experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or learners facing reading challenges
- Proven capability to evaluate student reading abilities and develop differentiated instruction autonomously
- Genuine interest in video games and gaming culture, whether or not you are an active gamer
- Authorized to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
