What you will be doing
- Create and conduct small-group reading sessions for K-2 learners, ensuring phonics education is enjoyable, interactive, and tailored to individuals
- Modify teaching approaches on the fly according to learner requirements, collective reading proficiency, and participation signals
- Facilitate motivational conversations with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy applications and reach educational milestones
- Track learner achievement metrics from adaptive platforms and apply insights to customize instruction for each group
- Employ narrative techniques, levity, gaming metaphors, and encouraging feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Willing to work in-person at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or related field
- Certification in structured literacy approaches such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or similar evidence-based phonics programs
- 2+ years of experience delivering small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or struggling readers
- Demonstrated ability to assess student reading levels and design differentiated instruction independently
- Enthusiastic about video games and gaming culture, even if not a gamer yourself
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
