What you will be doing
- Plan and conduct small-group reading sessions for K-2 students, ensuring phonics instruction is enjoyable, interactive, and tailored to individual needs
- Modify teaching approaches on the fly based on learner requirements, group proficiency levels, and participation signals
- Facilitate motivational coaching sessions with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy platforms and reach educational milestones
- Track student performance metrics from adaptive technology and apply insights to customize instruction for each group
- Leverage narrative techniques, humor, gaming metaphors, and affirmative feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Available to work on-site at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related discipline
- Certification in structured literacy methodologies such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics frameworks
- 2+ years of experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or learners facing reading challenges
- Proven capability to evaluate student reading proficiency and create differentiated lesson plans autonomously
- Genuine interest in video games and gaming culture, whether or not you are an active gamer
- Authorized to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
