What you will be doing
- Create and facilitate focused reading groups for K-2 learners, ensuring phonics education is enjoyable, interactive, and tailored
- Modify teaching approaches dynamically according to student requirements, group proficiency levels, and participation signals
- Conduct encouraging one-on-one sessions with learners to support progress in adaptive literacy platforms and reach educational milestones
- Track learner advancement metrics from adaptive technology and apply findings to customize instruction for individual reading groups
- Employ narrative techniques, wit, game-based comparisons, and affirmative feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Willing to work in-person at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or related field
- Certification in structured literacy approaches such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or similar evidence-based phonics programs
- 2+ years of experience delivering small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or struggling readers
- Demonstrated ability to assess student reading levels and design differentiated instruction independently
- Enthusiastic about video games and gaming culture, even if not a gamer yourself
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
