What you will be doing
- Create and facilitate small-group reading workshops for K-2 students, ensuring phonics instruction is fun, engaging, and tailored to individual needs
- Adjust teaching strategies in real time according to student needs, reading group levels, and engagement signals
- Conduct motivational check-ins with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy apps and support learning objectives
- Track student progress through adaptive software data and apply it to customize instruction for each reading group
- Employ storytelling, humor, gaming comparisons, and positive reinforcement to foster student persistence and address resistance
Candidate requirements
- Willing to work onsite at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related field
- Certification in structured literacy methods such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics programs
- 2+ years of experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or struggling readers
- Proven ability to evaluate student reading levels and develop differentiated instruction independently
- Excited about video games and gaming culture, even if you are not a gamer yourself
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
