What you will be doing
- Plan and facilitate small-group reading workshops for K-2 students, ensuring phonics instruction is engaging, enjoyable, and tailored to individual learners
- Modify teaching approaches on the fly based on student responses, reading proficiency levels, and engagement signals
- Conduct motivational sessions with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy applications and support achievement of learning milestones
- Track student performance data from adaptive platforms and apply it to customize instruction for each reading cohort
- Incorporate storytelling, humor, gaming metaphors, and positive feedback to foster student perseverance and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Available to work on-site at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related discipline
- Certification in structured literacy methods such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics frameworks
- 2+ years of experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or learners with reading challenges
- Proven ability to evaluate student reading proficiency and develop differentiated instruction autonomously
- Genuinely interested in video games and gaming culture, whether or not you are an active gamer
- Authorized to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
