What if helping young children unlock reading means reaching them through gaming culture, where leveling up, persistence, and mastery already feel instinctive?

You will facilitate small-group reading workshops at a school designed around the passions of young gamers, combining phonics instruction, adaptive literacy technology, and coaching to inspire K-2 students to love reading as much as they love their games.

Austin brings live music, mild winters, hill country hiking, and a dynamic education innovation community you will be part of.

Lead learning. Love growing. Apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Create and facilitate small-group reading workshops for K-2 students, making phonics instruction enjoyable, interactive, and tailored
  • Adjust teaching methods in the moment based on student needs, group literacy levels, and engagement signals
  • Conduct motivational check-ins with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy apps and reach learning milestones
  • Track student achievement data from adaptive software and apply it to tailor instruction for each reading group
  • Apply storytelling, humor, gaming metaphors, and positive reinforcement to sustain student effort and reduce resistance

Candidate requirements

  • Willing to work in-person at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
