In this role, you will facilitate small-group literacy sessions at a school designed around the passions of young gamers, combining phonics-based instruction, adaptive technology, and direct coaching to help K-2 students develop the same enthusiasm for reading that they bring to gaming.

What you will be doing
- Create and facilitate small-group literacy sessions for K-2 students, ensuring phonics instruction is engaging, enjoyable, and tailored to individual needs
- Adjust teaching methods dynamically in response to student readiness, group proficiency levels, and real-time engagement signals
- Conduct motivational one-on-one sessions with students to support progress in adaptive literacy platforms and help them meet learning milestones
- Review student performance data generated by adaptive software and apply insights to tailor instruction for each reading cohort
- Employ storytelling, humor, game-based comparisons, and affirmative feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Available to work on-site at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related discipline
- Certification in structured literacy methodologies including Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics frameworks
- 2+ years of hands-on experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 learners or students facing reading challenges
- Proven capability to evaluate student reading proficiency and independently develop differentiated instructional plans
- Genuine interest in video games and gaming culture, whether or not you actively play
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
