Many young children connect naturally with gaming culture—where progression, determination, and skill-building are rewarding. That same mindset can be channeled into early literacy development.

In this role, you will facilitate small-group reading sessions at a school designed around the interests of young gaming enthusiasts, combining phonics methods, adaptive literacy technology, and one-on-one coaching to help K-2 learners develop the same passion for reading that they have for games.

Austin provides year-round live music, mild winters, scenic hill country, and a dynamic education innovation community you will be part of.

Shape learning. Embrace growth. Submit your application.

What you will be doing

  • Plan and conduct small-group reading sessions for K-2 learners, making phonics instruction enjoyable, interactive, and tailored to individual needs
  • Modify teaching strategies on the fly in response to student performance, reading proficiency levels, and behavioral signals
  • Conduct motivational coaching sessions with students to promote progress in adaptive literacy platforms and meet educational objectives
  • Track student achievement data from adaptive software and apply insights to customize instruction for each group
  • Employ storytelling, humor, gaming metaphors, and positive feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance

  • Available to work on-site at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
  • Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related discipline
  • Certification in structured literacy methods such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics frameworks
