What you will be doing
- Plan and facilitate small-group reading sessions for K-2 learners, making phonics instruction enjoyable, interactive, and tailored to individual needs
- Modify teaching approaches on the fly in response to student requirements, group proficiency levels, and participation signals
- Conduct motivational one-on-one sessions with learners to promote progress in adaptive literacy platforms and meet educational objectives
- Track learner advancement metrics from adaptive technology and leverage this information to customize instruction for each reading cohort
- Employ narrative techniques, lightheartedness, gaming comparisons, and affirmative feedback to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Candidate requirements
- Able to work on-site at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related discipline
- Certification in structured literacy methodologies such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics frameworks
- 2+ years of experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 learners or readers facing challenges
- Proven capability to evaluate student reading proficiency and create differentiated instruction autonomously
- Passionate about video games and gaming culture, regardless of personal gaming experience
- Authorized to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
