Guide K-2   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site at Alpha School campuses: Phoenix, Arizona; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Houston, Texas; Park City (Salt Lake City), Utah
  • $100,000/year, paid weekly. Day-one health benefits
  • Relocation support included

The most supportive thing you can do for a six-year-old who's stuck is refuse to solve it for them. You coach them to unstick themselves. If that instinct feels wrong to you, this isn't your role.

Alpha is not a traditional school. Students learn academics through adaptive software at their own pace. There are no lectures, no worksheets, no one-size-fits-all pacing. Your job is to make a small group of K-2 students love showing up every morning, hit their learning goals every week, and master life skills that most adults never learned.

You'll run hands-on workshops on public speaking, focus, and giving and receiving feedback with five-, six-, and seven-year-olds. You'll coach students through their learning apps, not by giving answers, but by helping them build the problem-solving habits to push through on their own. When 100% of your students hit their weekly goals and 90% rate you as someone they love working with, you'll know you're doing it right.

This isn't babysitting kids on computers. It's high-accountability coaching where every student's progress is tracked, every session has a measurable outcome, and your impact shows up in data, not just feelings. If you believe kids are limitless and traditional education is holding them back, this is where you prove it.

What you will be doing

  • Delivering one-hour life skills workshops on topics like public speaking, focus, and giving/receiving feedback to a small cohort of K-2 students
  • Coaching students through adaptive learning apps by helping them develop strategies to get unstuck, not by giving them answers
  • Running motivation sessions using Alpha's motivational model (school currency, leaderboards, goal-setting) to drive 100% of students to their weekly learning targets
  • Preparing and delivering mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to confirm students have truly learned each skill
  • Reviewing curriculum and lesson plans daily, then customizing your delivery based on each student's profile, interests, and progress data

What you will NOT be doing

  • Lecturing in front of a classroom or delivering academic content (students learn academics through apps; you coach life skills and motivation)
  • Writing lesson plans from scratch or developing curriculum (Alpha provides the curriculum and playbooks; you bring the energy and execution)
  • Lowering the bar when students struggle (Alpha's model holds every student to mastery; passing someone at 90% isn't an option)
  • Managing parent communications or overseeing school operations (that's the Campus Lead's job)

Key responsibilities

Coach a small group of K-2 students to master life skills and hit their academic goals every week.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • At least 3 years of experience working with children ages 4 to 8 in education, afterschool programs, coaching, or similar settings
  • Experience leading structured activities for groups of young children that combine clear expectations with high engagement
  • Willingness to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Phoenix, Arizona; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Park City (Salt Lake City), Utah; Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; or Houston, Texas
  • Able to attend a paid training program at our Austin, Texas campus
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Background in youth athletics coaching, theater, or camp leadership where you had to hold kids' attention AND hold them to standards
  • Experience using data or analytics to track student or participant progress and adjust your approach
  • Track record of receiving feedback and visibly changing how you work based on it
  • Familiarity with growth mindset coaching techniques or positive behavioral frameworks for young children
