Reading Interventionist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You know the switch. The moment a student stops guessing and starts reading with control. They look up and say, “I can do this.” If that’s the work you want to do every day, you’ll feel at home here.

Prequel is a remote-first online school built for real growth, not seat time. We’re redesigning how students learn so they progress faster, enjoy the process, and leave with confidence you can measure.

Most weeks, you’ll run high-impact intervention sessions. The rest, you’ll lead quick motivation check-ins that keep students on track and hitting goals. This role suits people who like autonomy, tight feedback loops, and outcomes they can see. It’s not for anyone who wants a fixed script or shies away from data.

If you want to help struggling readers make meaningful gains—and you want the freedom to tailor your approach to each student—we’d like to meet you.

What you will be doing

  • Design and deliver virtual small-group and one-on-one reading intervention sessions for students in grades 3–8
  • Use reading assessment data to target fluency and comprehension gaps and adjust instruction quickly
  • Differentiate activities across multiple reading levels, including support for dyslexia and related reading difficulties
  • Track progress in a clear, consistent way and use the data to plan the next sessions
  • Run structured motivation check-ins that build confidence, persistence, and pride in growth

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teach large, whole-class lessons or lecture from a fixed curriculum
  • Follow a pre-scripted program without adapting to student needs and real-time feedback
  • Act as a passive “software monitor” without meaningful instruction and connection
  • Rely on shallow rewards that do not build lasting motivation

Key responsibilities

Own outcomes for grades 3–8—measurable gains in fluency and comprehension—by delivering personalized virtual interventions and motivation support that builds confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Full-time availability during U.S. business hours (Monday–Friday; 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. PT)
