Debate Specialist   $75 USD/hour

Description

You’ve mastered the art of persuasion. Now you get to train gifted students who are hungry to win, not just “get better at speaking.” If you have real debate credentials and you can coach under pressure, you will feel at home here.

GT School builds high-performing learners through real stakes. That means students compete in serious circuits, earn portfolio-ready wins, and prove what they can do. This role exists to turn talent into results: sharper cases, stronger strategy, better execution, and more finalists.

You will run live virtual workshops, coach students for specific events (like Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum), and create reusable curriculum that other guides can use. This is not a casual enrichment class. You will be held to outcomes, and you will have the freedom to teach at a high level.

If you want to pass on hard-earned skill, build confidence in gifted K–8 students, and help create the next wave of champions, we would like to meet you.

What you will be doing

  • Run 2–4 live virtual debate workshops each week that are fast-paced, interactive, and built around students actively debating
  • Coach tournament-bound students through mock debates, drills, and direct feedback tailored to their event and style
  • Break down advanced argumentation, cross-examination, and rebuttal strategy into clear, teachable steps
  • Guide research and evidence prep so students build stronger cases aligned with current topics and competitive norms
  • Create and refine reusable lesson plans, topic briefs, and judging rubrics that raise the bar across the program

What you will NOT be doing

  • Teach generic public speaking or confidence classes without measurable competition outcomes
  • Run lecture-only sessions where students sit quietly and “listen” instead of debating
  • Coach with vague advice that ignores judging criteria, scoring, and event-specific strategy
  • Create one-off materials that cannot be reused or that fall behind current topics and standards

Key responsibilities

This role exists so gifted K–8 students consistently earn measurable debate competition wins and finalist placements that prove GT School’s real-stakes model.

Candidate requirements

  • Verifiable elite debate achievement (awards, rankings, finalist placements) and/or a proven record coaching winning students or teams
  • At least 6 months of teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience with clear outcomes
  • Deep knowledge of competitive debate formats, judging criteria, and tournament expectations
  • Ability to run engaging, on-camera virtual sessions with strong presence and clear instruction
  • Commitment to 5–10 hours per week in a fully remote setup
  • Reliable internet and a professional-quality video and audio setup
  • Portfolio, results, or credentials that confirm competitive debate experience
