Camp Counselor   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position at the Alpha School campus, Brownsville, TX
  • $100,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay. Health benefits begin day one.
  • Relocation assistance available for one-school-year campus commitment

You've spent years coaching young people — not lecturing them. You understand the distinction: coaching means building connection, pushing limits, and refusing to accept anything less than a student's full potential. Teaching means delivering curriculum. You've never been a curriculum delivery mechanism.

Alpha operates the most unconventional educational model you'll encounter. Students don't sit in rows absorbing lectures. They progress through AI-driven learning platforms at individualized speeds. AI manages instructional delivery. Your role is to lead life skills workshops that captivate K-8 students, facilitate motivation sessions that drive weekly learning targets, and maintain standards when students attempt to disengage. Academic progress is automated. You manage the human dimension.

This position offers a meaningful advancement path, and that path leads to greater student influence. Educators who consistently achieve targets (100% cohort meeting weekly app milestones, 90%+ satisfaction ratings) advance to Lead Guide positions where they train other educators in these methods. Students remain the focus.

The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for leaving your current position is the mission — transforming what students believe about their capabilities — rather than resume building, submit your application.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students on topics including public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify students have genuinely acquired the skill, not merely attended
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions using student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot analytics to achieve 100% cohort completion of weekly app progression goals
  • Leveraging storytelling, incentive systems (school currency, leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome student resistance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction scores with a 90%+ benchmark on student surveys

What you will NOT be doing

  • Lecturing from the front of a classroom. Students progress academically via self-directed AI-powered applications, not through direct instruction from you.
  • Supervising passive screen time. Children using computers is the environment; active engagement is the responsibility.
  • Compromising standards when students resist. Test2Pass requirements remain firm, even when a student faces a difficult week.
  • Creating curriculum independently. Workshop frameworks and lesson plans are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the presence and narrative skill that ensures genuine student learning.
  • Handling parent communications, admissions processes, or campus administration. Those functions belong to separate roles.

Key responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-8 students to achieve 100% of their weekly academic targets while facilitating life skills workshops that maintain 90%+ satisfaction scores.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 (elementary and middle school) students
  • Strong storytelling ability and facilitation presence — capable of maintaining student engagement for one-hour sessions
  • Available to work on-site at the Alpha campus located in Brownsville, TX
  • Authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program leader
  • Demonstrated history of high achievement in competitive settings (academic, athletic, or professional)
  • Familiarity with self-paced or technology-based learning environments
