Youth Development Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position at the Alpha School campus located in Brownsville, TX
  • $100,000 annual W2 salary, distributed weekly. Health benefits begin on day one.
  • Relocation assistance available for those committing to a full school year on campus

You've built your career coaching young people — not simply instructing them. You understand the distinction: coaching means connecting deeply, pushing boundaries, and refusing to accept anything less than a student's full potential. Instruction is content transmission. You've never been interested in that.

Alpha operates the most unorthodox school model you're likely to encounter. Students don't occupy rows while absorbing lectures. They progress through AI-driven learning applications individually, at their own speed. The AI manages instructional delivery. Your responsibility is facilitating life skills workshops that captivate K-8 students, leading motivation sessions that drive weekly learning target achievement, and maintaining standards when students attempt to disengage. Academic progress is automated. You manage the human dimension.

This position offers meaningful advancement potential, centered on deeper student influence. Educators who reliably achieve performance benchmarks (100% cohort attainment of weekly app objectives, satisfaction ratings above 90%) advance into Lead Guide positions where they mentor fellow educators in methodology refinement. Students remain the central focus.

The campus sits in Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for career change is mission-driven — transforming a child's self-perception — rather than credential-building, submit your application.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops with K-8 students addressing topics including public speaking, concentration techniques, and feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify genuine skill acquisition rather than passive attendance
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions utilizing student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot analytics to ensure 100% cohort achievement of weekly app progression targets
  • Leveraging narrative techniques, incentive structures (school currency, competitive leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome student reluctance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction metrics toward a 90%+ benchmark in student survey responses

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering traditional lectures from the front of a classroom. Academic advancement occurs through self-directed AI-powered applications, not through your direct instruction.
  • Passive supervision. While the environment involves children using computers, the work requires active facilitation and engagement.
  • Compromising standards when students resist. Test2Pass requirements remain firm, even during challenging weeks for individual students.
  • Creating original curriculum materials. Workshop frameworks and lesson guides are supplied; your role is executing them with the presence and narrative skill that ensures material retention.
  • Handling parent communications, admissions processes, or campus operational management. Those responsibilities belong to separate roles.

Key responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-8 students toward 100% achievement of weekly academic targets while facilitating life skills workshops that maintain 90%+ satisfaction ratings.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 (elementary and middle school) students
  • Strong storytelling and facilitation capabilities — capacity to maintain engagement with a room of children throughout an hour-long session
  • Willingness to work on-site at the Alpha campus located in Brownsville, TX
  • Authorization to work legally in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program coordinator
  • Demonstrated history of excellence in competitive settings (academic, athletic, or professional contexts)
  • Familiarity with self-directed or application-based learning environments
