Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position at the Alpha School campus in Brownsville, TX
  • $100,000 annual W2 salary, distributed weekly. Health benefits begin on day one.
  • Relocation assistance available for candidates committing to one full school year on campus

You've dedicated years to coaching young people — not lecturing them. The distinction matters: coaches connect, push boundaries, and refuse to accept anything less than a student's full potential. Teachers transmit information. You've never been an information transmitter.

Alpha operates the most nontraditional school model you'll encounter. Students don't occupy desks arranged in rows while someone talks at them. They progress through AI-driven learning platforms at individualized speeds. The AI manages instructional delivery. Your responsibility is facilitating life skills workshops that command the attention of K-8 students, conducting motivation sessions that drive weekly learning target achievement, and maintaining high standards when students attempt to disengage. Academic progression happens independently. You manage the relational dimension.

This position offers meaningful upward trajectory, and that trajectory is measured in expanded student influence. Educators who consistently deliver results (100% cohort achievement of weekly app targets, satisfaction ratings above 90%) advance into Lead Guide positions where they train other coaches to elevate their practice. Students remain the central focus.

The campus location is Brownsville, adjacent to SpaceX's Starbase facility. If your motivation for career change centers on mission — transforming what children believe they can achieve — rather than résumé enhancement, submit your application.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for K-8 students addressing topics including public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange
  • Administering Test2Pass mastery assessments following each workshop to verify students have internalized the skill, not merely attended
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions informed by student profiles, personal interests, and Coachbot analytics to ensure 100% cohort achievement of weekly app progression targets
  • Employing narrative techniques, incentive structures (campus currency, leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome student reluctance
  • Monitoring cohort satisfaction metrics with a 90%+ benchmark on student feedback surveys

What you will NOT be doing

  • Presenting lectures at a whiteboard. Academic advancement occurs through self-directed AI-powered applications, not through direct instruction from you.
  • Passive supervision. The environment involves students using computers; the role demands active facilitation.
  • Compromising standards when students resist. Test2Pass expectations remain firm, independent of individual student circumstances during challenging weeks.
  • Creating curriculum materials independently. Workshop frameworks and lesson structures are supplied; your responsibility is executing them with the interpersonal presence and narrative skill that ensures genuine student comprehension.
  • Handling parent communications, coordinating admissions processes, or supervising facility operations. Those functions belong to separate positions.

Key responsibilities

Guide a cohort of K-8 students toward 100% achievement of weekly academic targets while facilitating life skills workshops that maintain 90%+ satisfaction ratings.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 (elementary and middle school) age students
  • Strong narrative and facilitation skills — capacity to maintain sustained engagement with a room of children for one-hour sessions
  • Availability to work on-site at the Alpha campus location in Brownsville, TX
  • Authorization to work legally in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice to have

  • Experience as an athletic coach, camp counselor, or youth program coordinator
  • Demonstrated history of strong performance in competitive settings (academic, athletic, or professional domains)
  • Familiarity with self-paced or application-based learning models
