Mandatory qualification: Master's degree in reading instruction OR advanced certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, or equivalent).

At Alpha School, you will execute an AI-powered reading program that redefines early literacy instruction. You'll facilitate brief, high-impact workshops rather than traditional hour-long sessions. Your work includes diagnosing student needs, building original evidence-based lessons without templates, and contributing to adaptive tools that extend your expertise to hundreds of learners. This position is designed for reading specialists who excel beyond rigid curricula and are ready to lead scalable literacy innovation.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating adaptive reading workshops focused on building core competencies in phonics, fluency, and comprehension
  • Creating personalized, motivational sessions that engage students and foster a lasting passion for reading
  • Reviewing student performance data to iteratively improve instructional methods and generate actionable insights
  • Partnering with the technology team to assess and refine AI-powered literacy tools

What you will NOT be doing

  • Following pre-packaged curricula or publisher-provided scope-and-sequence materials

Key responsibilities

Cultivate a passion for reading in early learners

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Master's degree or advanced certification in reading instruction (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing small-group reading interventions to early elementary students
  • Ability to assess reading levels, organize student groupings, and create differentiated instruction independently of pre-written curricula
  • Comfortable using AI/adaptive learning tools and interpreting student interaction data within those platforms
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship
  • Able to work on-site at one of our campuses: Palo Alto, CA; San Francisco, CA; Santa Monica, CA; Chicago, IL; New York City, NY; Chantilly (Washington), VA
