Alpha School is seeking experts to execute an AI-enhanced reading program that reshapes early literacy instruction. You will lead focused, high-impact workshops instead of conventional hour-long sessions. Your work includes diagnosing learner needs, building original evidence-based lessons without templates, and contributing to adaptive systems that extend your expertise to hundreds of students. This position is designed for reading specialists who excel beyond rigid curriculum frameworks and are ready to advance scalable literacy solutions.

What you will be doing

  • Leading adaptive reading workshops that build core competencies in phonics, fluency, and comprehension
  • Creating personalized motivational experiences that engage students and foster a lasting passion for reading
  • Reviewing student performance data to iteratively improve instruction and extract meaningful insights
  • Partnering with the technology team to assess and refine AI-powered literacy platforms

  • Following pre-packaged curricula or published instructional sequences

Key responsibilities

Cultivate a genuine enthusiasm for reading in young students

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Master's degree or advanced certification in reading instruction (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 2 years delivering small-group reading interventions to early elementary learners
  • Capable of evaluating reading levels, organizing student groups, and creating differentiated instruction independently of pre-written materials
  • Experienced with AI/adaptive learning platforms and able to respond to student interactions within those systems
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship
  • Available to work on-site at one of our locations: Chantilly (Washington), VA; San Francisco, CA; or New York City, NY
