Description

Imagine turning those magical moments when a child's eyes light up with understanding into your daily work—minus the paperwork, grading, and curriculum headaches.

Unbound Academy is revolutionizing education through our virtual charter school where traditional classroom constraints dissolve into engaging, purpose-driven learning experiences. Our innovative approach compresses academic work into two efficient hours using cutting-edge AI tools, freeing the rest of the day for what truly matters: interactive workshops that cultivate essential life skills and genuine curiosity.

As our Online Youth Mentor, you'll be the energetic backbone of this educational revolution—not teaching content, but creating the perfect environment for learning to flourish. You'll be the troubleshooter, the cheerleader, and the guide who ensures every virtual session feels seamless and inspiring.

If you've thrived in youth-centered environments—whether coaching sports teams, leading camp activities, or guiding tutoring sessions—and you're passionate about transforming education into something more authentic and engaging, we're looking for your special touch.

What you will be doing

  • Orchestrating the digital classroom experience by managing virtual breakout rooms, facilitating smooth transitions, and supporting collaborative group activities
  • Igniting student enthusiasm through personalized encouragement, timely chat interactions, and recognition that celebrates both effort and achievement
  • Cultivating a vibrant online community where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to participate fully
  • Providing crucial behind-the-scenes support to lead educators, ensuring technical and logistical elements enhance rather than distract from learning
  • Becoming a trusted mentor figure who helps shape school culture through student clubs and specialized life skill development tracks

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic content or subject-specific instruction
  • Developing curriculum materials or evaluating student academic performance
  • Taking full responsibility for workshop design or independent facilitation
  • Observing passively—this role demands active engagement and continuous energy

Key responsibilities

Create dynamic virtual learning environments where students thrive by providing real-time support, maintaining engagement, and ensuring each workshop flows with purpose and energy. You'll be the essential bridge that connects students to their learning experiences, keeping them motivated, focused, and ready to participate fully.

Candidate requirements

  • Availability for full-time hours (8am-5pm Monday-Friday, Mountain Time/UTC-7)
  • Minimum 3 years proven experience in youth development roles (mentoring, coaching, tutoring, or leadership positions)
  • Educational background within US, Canadian, or UK school systems (K-16)—must have personal experience as a student in one of these educational systems (remote work from any location is acceptable)
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication abilities and proficiency with digital learning platforms
  • Natural ability to energize groups while maintaining attention to logistical details and seamless experience transitions

Nice to have

  • Previous involvement with digital learning environments or youth enrichment initiatives
  • Experience leading extracurricular programs, summer camps, or student organizations
