Online Youth Mentor   $40,000 USD/year

Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a hybrid role that requires physical presence in Arizona.

What if your work centered on keeping students energized, engaged, and eager to participate—free from the demands of grading, lesson planning, or academic instruction?

This position is designed for individuals who excel with young people and thrive in active environments. At Unbound Academy's tuition-free, fully virtual charter school, students progress rapidly through academics using AI-powered tools, then transition to live, interactive workshops that emphasize life skills, teamwork, and self-assurance. Your role is to ensure these experiences run seamlessly and resonate positively with students.

You'll serve as the vital link throughout the student experience. You'll facilitate transitions, guide small groups, maintain high energy, and provide support when students need motivation or direction. While you won't deliver academic content, your presence is essential to making the model work.

If you've guided youth in camps, after-school settings, athletics, tutoring, or youth development organizations—and the idea of a hybrid role combining virtual engagement with in-person collaboration excites you—this is an opportunity to restore humanity to education.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating live virtual workshops by coordinating breakout rooms, managing transitions, maintaining pacing, and ensuring smooth group dynamics
  • Promoting student participation through chat engagement, recognition, gentle prompts, and one-on-one check-ins
  • Supporting students in staying engaged, confident, and connected across the learning day
  • Assisting lead educators with operational logistics that ensure sessions proceed without disruption
  • Serving as a reliable, trusted presence within student clubs and life-skills programming

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering academic instruction or teaching subject matter
  • Developing lesson plans, grading assignments, or conducting academic assessments
  • Building curriculum or facilitating workshops on your own
  • Remaining passive or observing from the sidelines—this role demands active, energetic involvement

Key responsibilities

Facilitate dynamic, virtual learning environments by keeping students engaged, organized, and motivated throughout every workshop session.

Candidate requirements

  • Available to start immediately or at the end of July (one of the two).
  • At least 3 years of experience mentoring, coaching, tutoring, or leading youth
  • Educational background within U.S., Canadian, or U.K. school systems (K–16); must have attended school in one of these countries
  • Strong communication skills and high comfort operating across digital platforms
  • Energizing, student-first presence with strong attention to detail and smooth transitions
  • Willing to work full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm U.S. Mountain Time (UTC-7)
  • Willing to work in a hybrid role in Arizona.
