Student Success Coach   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site, full-time position in Dripping Springs, TX (near Austin)
  • Annual salary of $100,000, paid weekly; comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
  • Relocation assistance provided

The most meaningful way to support a struggling student is to maintain high expectations. If that principle resonates with you — and if you'd prefer to demonstrate it through outdoor cohort experiences rather than classroom theory — this role deserves your attention.

This position differs fundamentally from traditional teaching. Waypoint Academy students don't learn through passive lecture formats. Instead, they progress independently through adaptive learning technology while you guide them in developing focus, resilience, and achievement mindset. You'll facilitate outdoor experiences: one-hour life-skills workshops addressing public speaking, collaboration, leadership, and critical thinking through adventure-based, experiential methodologies designed to challenge and engage. Every workshop concludes with a Test2Pass mastery assessment — students must successfully demonstrate the target competency in applied context.

Your remaining time centers on motivation sessions: brief, individualized coaching interactions informed by Coachbot analytics, where you establish connection with students and drive progress toward their academic objectives. You'll witness measurable, immediate transformation as students evolve from disengaged learners to self-assured achievers. Your performance metrics are transparent: student satisfaction scores (90% benchmark) and weekly goal completion rates (100% benchmark).

High-performing coaches advance to senior positions: leading teams and influencing the school's approach to student motivation and development. Beyond that lies complete school ownership — accountability for outcomes, culture, and operations. Dripping Springs sits 30 minutes from Austin's technology sector, live music venues, and culinary scene, offering over 300 sunny days annually and year-round Hill Country outdoor recreation.

If you've long believed there's a more effective approach to student engagement, submit your application now.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating 1-hour outdoor life-skills workshops (public speaking, focus, leadership, teamwork) through nature-based, adventure-style programming using Waypoint's established curriculum and implementation playbook
  • Conducting motivation sessions with individual students, leveraging Coachbot analytics and student profile information to guide them toward weekly academic objectives
  • Completing each workshop with a Test2Pass mastery check: students must demonstrate the targeted life skill in authentic context before session completion
  • Exercising outdoor safety protocols before every session: evaluating routes and weather conditions, inspecting equipment, and following Leave No Trace principles according to Waypoint's field standards
  • Energizing sessions through narrative techniques, creative adaptation, and the presence required to maintain engagement from K-12 learning cohorts in indoor and outdoor environments

What you will NOT be doing

  • Providing academic lectures or traditional classroom instruction. Students access course material through adaptive EdTech platforms; your function is to coach them past obstacles, not teach curriculum content.
  • Supervising students during screen time. You'll be actively leading outdoor workshops, conducting motivation sessions, and coaching students through challenges.
  • Evaluating assignments, creating lesson plans from the ground up, or preparing students for standardized assessments.
  • Reducing expectations for struggling students. Standards remain firm, mastery is non-negotiable, and your responsibility is to coach students to success — not adjust the requirements.
  • Handling parent outreach or administrative operations. These duties fall under the Campus Lead's purview.

Key responsibilities

Support K-12 students at Waypoint Academy in developing enthusiasm for learning, accelerating academic progress, and cultivating enduring life competencies.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Minimum of 3 years direct experience working with K-12 students in educational, camp, coaching, or outdoor education contexts
  • Documented history of exceptional personal achievement: competitive sports, academic distinction, or distinguished professional accomplishment
  • Strong public speaking capability with demonstrated ability to engage and maintain attention from large student groups in diverse settings
  • Authentic capacity to build rapport with K-12 learners as an inspiring role model who challenges growth, rather than a peer who accepts underperformance
  • Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship requirement
  • Availability to work on-site at the Waypoint Academy campus located in Dripping Springs, TX (near Austin)

Nice to have

  • Background as an athletic coach, outdoor expedition leader, camp director, or wilderness education instructor
  • Current first aid or wilderness safety credentials
  • Working knowledge of adaptive learning systems such as Khan Academy or IXL
  • Experience in youth development, experiential education, or outdoor youth program delivery
