Outdoor Education Teacher   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-campus role in Dripping Springs (Austin metro), TX
  • $100,000 annual compensation, distributed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
  • Relocation assistance available for candidates planning a move

Waypoint Academy has replaced traditional lectures with adventure-driven life skills and AI-powered personalized academics. Students do not remain seated while you present—they develop public speaking skills outdoors, cultivate leadership through collaborative challenges, and progress at twice the standard pace using intelligent software.

This role is about coaching K-12 learners to unlock their capabilities through outdoor programming and goal-driven motivation sessions, not delivering conventional curriculum. You will facilitate nature-based activities that develop tangible competencies—focus, communication, collaboration—rather than lecture. High-performing educators who envision a fundamentally different model for schooling excel in this environment. You will witness measurable, immediate transformation as students shift from hesitant participants to self-assured achievers.

Dripping Springs provides Hill Country scenery 30 minutes from Austin's technology hub, live music venues, and culinary landscape. Over 300 sunny days annually, proximity to Barton Springs, and year-round outdoor recreation.

Coach growth. Lead adventure. Apply today.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating 1-hour outdoor life-skills sessions (public speaking, focus, leadership, teamwork) using nature-based challenges and adventure-style programming
  • Conducting brief, results-oriented motivation sessions where you guide students toward academic milestones using adaptive software
  • Animating curriculum through storytelling, personalization, and dynamic energy that sustains high engagement among K-12 learners
  • Implementing safety procedures and outdoor risk management (route planning, weather assessment, gear inspection, Leave No Trace principles) according to Waypoint's field standards
  • Evaluating skill acquisition by having students demonstrate real-world application of life skills
  • Maintaining rigorous standards of excellence while serving as an approachable, motivating role model students authentically respect

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • At least 3 years of experience with K-12 students in educational, camp, coaching, or outdoor program settings
  • Demonstrated history of high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional)
  • Strong public speaking ability with the capacity to energize and command attention from large student groups, both indoors and outdoors
  • Authentic ability to connect with K-12 learners, their interests, and culture—not as a peer but as a constructive role model who challenges them to develop
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without need for visa sponsorship
  • Willingness to work onsite at Waypoint Academy's Dripping Springs, TX campus (near Austin)

Nice to have

  • First aid or wilderness safety certification
