Waypoint Academy is replacing traditional lecture-based instruction with adventure-driven life skills and AI-powered personalized academics. Students don't remain seated while you present—they develop public speaking skills on outdoor trails, cultivate leadership through collaborative challenges, and advance academically at twice the typical pace using tailored software.

This role is not conventional teaching. It's about guiding K-12 students to unlock their capabilities through outdoor experiential workshops and motivational coaching sessions. You'll facilitate nature-based activities that develop authentic competencies (concentration, communication, collaboration), rather than delivering standard curriculum. You'll witness students evolve from hesitant participants to self-assured performers—measurably and in real time.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitating 1-hour outdoor life-skills workshops (public speaking, concentration, leadership, collaboration) using nature-based challenges and adventure-oriented activities
  • Conducting brief, high-energy motivational sessions where you guide students toward academic milestones using adaptive software
  • Animating curriculum through storytelling, personalization, and dynamic delivery that maintains high engagement among K-12 students
  • Implementing safety procedures and outdoor decision-making (route selection, weather monitoring, equipment inspection, Leave No Trace principles) according to Waypoint's field standards
  • Evaluating skill acquisition by having students demonstrate their ability to apply the life skill in authentic situations
  • Maintaining rigorous standards of excellence while serving as an approachable, motivating role model students genuinely admire

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any subject
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with K-12 students in school, camp, coaching, or outdoor programs
  • Proven track record of high achievement (academically, athletically, or professionally)
  • Compelling public speaker who can energize and hold attention for large groups of students, indoors and outdoors
  • Natural ability to relate to K-12 learners, their interests, and culture, not as a "buddy" but as a positive role model who pushes them to grow
  • Legal right to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
  • Willingness to work in-person at Waypoint Academy's campus in Dripping Springs, TX (near Austin)
