Early Literacy Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position in Dorado, Puerto Rico
  • Weekly payment of $100,000 annual salary
  • Relocation assistance provided

If you believe every child should achieve grade-level reading proficiency (or better), yet find it frustrating when ineffective systems squander their promise, this role may be for you.

Alpha School demonstrates that literacy transformation does not depend on extended school days. We combine AI-adaptive platforms with skilled teaching through our 2-Hour Learning framework to accelerate reading development. Your objective: create and implement workshops that produce quantifiable improvements in phonics, fluency, and comprehension for students in early elementary grades.

This role centers on data-informed instruction, technology integration, and constructing a reading program designed to scale to thousands of learners—not administrative busywork.

Life in Dorado: Beautiful coastline within minutes. A lively bilingual setting with convenient proximity to San Juan's cultural offerings, while preserving the quality of a smaller community.

What you will be doing

  • Leading adaptive reading workshops focused on phonics, comprehension, and fluency development
  • Creating personalized motivational experiences through gamified literacy benchmarks
  • Evaluating student performance data to adjust instruction and identify actionable trends
  • Partnering with engineering teams to assess and improve AI literacy platforms based on real classroom outcomes
  • Building scalable, AI-supported instructional content that helps early elementary learners reach grade-level reading proficiency

What you will NOT be doing

  • Presenting material from the front of the room — learning occurs through self-directed AI applications, not traditional lectures
  • Adhering to a packaged curriculum or scripted lesson format — you create original workshop designs independently
  • Delivering instruction in core academic subjects — your scope is reading workshops and motivational support, not math or science teaching
  • Managing behavior or providing supervision without learning goals — each session targets specific, measurable objectives
  • Operating independently — you work closely with engineers who develop the AI tools your students interact with every day

Key responsibilities

Drive every K-2 student in your group to read at or above grade level using AI-accelerated workshops that make phonics instruction engaging, trackable, and enjoyable

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus either a Master's in reading instruction OR a structured literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent)
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (necessary for interactions with students and families)
  • 2+ years providing small-group reading interventions for early elementary students
  • Capable of evaluating reading levels, organizing student groups, and creating differentiated lessons without relying on pre-existing curricula
  • Experienced with AI/adaptive learning platforms and able to interpret student behavioral data
  • Legal eligibility to work in Puerto Rico without requiring sponsorship
  • Prepared to work on-site in Dorado, Puerto Rico
