Literacy Interventionist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize the turning point. The instant a student transitions from guessing to reading with command. They meet your eyes and say, "I can do this." If that's the kind of work you're drawn to each day, this role will resonate.

Prequel is a remote-first online school designed around genuine progress, not attendance logs. We're rethinking student learning so they advance more rapidly, engage with the material, and graduate with measurable confidence.

In most weeks, you'll conduct targeted intervention sessions with high impact. In others, you'll facilitate brief motivational touchpoints that maintain student momentum and goal achievement. This position fits individuals who value independence, immediate feedback cycles, and visible results. It's unsuitable for anyone seeking a rigid playbook or uncomfortable with data-driven decisions.

If your goal is to support struggling readers in achieving substantial progress—and you value the latitude to customize your methods for individual students—we're interested in connecting.

What you will be doing

  • Create and conduct virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for students spanning grades 3–8
  • Apply reading assessment data to address fluency and comprehension deficits and modify instruction rapidly
  • Adapt activities for varied reading proficiency levels, including accommodations for dyslexia and associated reading challenges
  • Monitor progress with clarity and consistency, then leverage that data to prepare subsequent sessions
  • Facilitate structured motivational touchpoints that foster confidence, resilience, and satisfaction in academic development

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large, whole-class instruction or present from an inflexible curriculum
  • Execute a pre-written program without responding to individual student requirements and immediate feedback
  • Function as a passive "software supervisor" lacking substantive teaching and rapport
  • Depend on superficial incentives that fail to cultivate enduring motivation

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of outcomes for grades 3–8—quantifiable improvements in fluency and comprehension—through delivery of customized virtual interventions and motivational guidance that strengthens confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Full-time availability during U.S. business hours (Monday–Friday; 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. PT)
