Virtual Reading Specialist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize that shift. The instant a learner stops fumbling and begins reading with purpose. They meet your eyes and declare, "I've got this." If that's the kind of work you seek daily, this is where you belong.

Unbound is a remote-first online school designed for genuine progress, not logged hours. We're rethinking student learning so they advance more quickly, find joy in the journey, and emerge with measurable confidence.

In most weeks, you'll conduct high-impact intervention sessions. The remainder, you'll facilitate brief motivation touchpoints that maintain student momentum toward their objectives. This position fits individuals who value independence, immediate feedback cycles, and visible results. It's unsuitable for those seeking scripted routines or who avoid working with data.

If your goal is helping struggling readers achieve substantial progress—and you value the latitude to customize your methods for each learner—we want to speak with you.

What you will be doing

  • Plan and execute virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for grades 3–8 students
  • Leverage reading assessment data to address fluency and comprehension deficits and modify instruction rapidly
  • Adapt activities for diverse reading levels, including accommodations for dyslexia and associated reading challenges
  • Monitor progress through clear, systematic methods and apply the data to inform upcoming sessions
  • Conduct structured motivation touchpoints that cultivate confidence, perseverance, and pride in advancement

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large, whole-class instruction or present from a rigid curriculum
  • Adhere to a pre-written program without responding to student requirements and live feedback
  • Serve as a detached "software supervisor" lacking substantive instruction and rapport
  • Depend on superficial incentives that fail to foster enduring motivation

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of outcomes for grades 3–8—quantifiable improvements in fluency and comprehension—through personalized virtual interventions and motivational guidance that develops confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related discipline
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state credential)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy methodologies)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience providing small-group or individual reading interventions for grades 3–8 students
  • Experience working with students who have dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Capability to analyze progress monitoring data and apply it to design and modify instruction
  • Strong capacity to engage and manage students virtually through clear, motivating communication
  • Available to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona as needed.
