Reading Intervention Specialist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize the shift. The instant when a student stops making guesses and begins reading with clarity and command. They glance up and tell you, "I can do this." If that's the kind of work you want to engage in daily, this environment will suit you.

Prequel is a remote-first online school designed around genuine progress, not hours logged. We are restructuring how students learn so they advance more quickly, find satisfaction in the work, and graduate with confidence that can be quantified.

In most weeks, you will conduct high-impact intervention sessions. The remainder of your time, you'll facilitate brief motivation check-ins that maintain student momentum and support goal achievement. This position is well-suited to individuals who value autonomy, immediate feedback, and tangible results. It is not appropriate for anyone seeking a rigid script or avoiding data-driven work.

If you are committed to helping struggling readers achieve substantial improvement—and you seek the flexibility to customize your methods for each student—we would be pleased to connect with you.

What you will be doing

  • Develop and facilitate virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for students in grades 3–8
  • Utilize reading assessment data to identify fluency and comprehension deficits and modify instruction promptly
  • Tailor activities for various reading proficiency levels, including accommodations for dyslexia and associated reading challenges
  • Monitor progress systematically and consistently, using collected data to inform subsequent session planning
  • Conduct structured motivation check-ins that foster confidence, perseverance, and satisfaction in student growth

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large, whole-class lessons or present content from a rigid curriculum
  • Adhere to a scripted program without making adjustments based on student needs and immediate feedback
  • Serve as a passive "software monitor" without providing substantive instruction and personal connection
  • Depend on superficial rewards that fail to cultivate enduring motivation

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of measurable outcomes for grades 3–8—documented improvements in fluency and comprehension—through the delivery of personalized virtual interventions and motivational support that strengthens confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Full-time availability during U.S. business hours (Monday–Friday; 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. PT)
