Learning and Development Manager   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site position in Dorado, Puerto Rico
  • $150,000 annual salary, paid weekly

If traditional education no longer challenges you and you refuse to compromise standards for the sake of comfort, this opportunity will stand apart. You will guide children and adults toward ambitious goals through data and explicit benchmarks—not through lectures or conventional lesson plans.

Alpha School is developing an AI-driven educational model in which students complete core academics in only two hours each day, dedicating their afternoons to building practical life skills. Our commitment is both straightforward and rigorous: students enjoy school, learn at twice the speed of their peers, and develop essential life competencies. This position ensures that commitment becomes reality for every K–8 student on our Dorado campus.

You will remain directly engaged. You will deliver one-hour life skills sessions, facilitate structured motivation activities that advance students through academic applications, and coach Guides using direct feedback paired with actionable improvement steps. This is neither a conventional teaching position nor a hands-off management role. You will own outcomes, adherence to established protocols, and unwavering standards.

If you are ready to lead by example and cultivate a campus culture where results are earned through discipline, apply and demonstrate how you uphold excellence without compromise.

What you will be doing

  • Execute one-hour life skills sessions for K–8 students by preparing and delivering activities precisely according to playbooks
  • Lead structured motivation activities that encourage students to progress in academic apps and reach defined targets
  • Observe Guides during instruction and provide standards-based coaching paired with explicit improvement actions and accountability
  • Apply objective, metrics-driven judgment to maintain mastery standards, even in difficult situations
  • Work closely with on-site staff daily to ensure reliable delivery of Alpha's 3 Promises

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver or tutor academic content in a traditional classroom setting
  • Create lesson plans or develop new curriculum
  • Deviate from established playbooks or improvise workshop content
  • Compromise mastery benchmarks or adjust goals to create artificial progress
  • Manage remotely through administrative tasks while others engage directly with students

Key responsibilities

Ensure that every K–8 student at Alpha's Dorado campus reliably experiences Alpha's 3 Promises: they love school, learn 2× faster, and build life skills.

Candidate requirements

  • Authorized to work in Puerto Rico
  • Available to work full-time on-site at the Dorado, Puerto Rico campus
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of relevant experience coaching individuals to ambitious outcomes
  • Experience working with children ages 5–14 in coaching, motivation, or youth development contexts
  • Experience coaching or leading adult performance using clear standards and accountability
  • Strong verbal communication skills appropriate for K–8 audiences
  • Data-driven decision-making capability (leveraging metrics and analytics to guide decisions and maintain standards)
  • High-standards mindset with comfort delivering direct feedback and sustaining goals without compromise
