Student Success Strategist   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-site at Alpha School locations: New York City, NY · Orange County (Lake Forest), CA · San Francisco, CA · Santa Barbara, CA
  • $150,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Full health coverage begins day one.
  • Relocation assistance provided

You've excelled in environments that separate contenders from champions. Perhaps elite-level athletics, graduation with honors from a highly competitive university, a position at a top-tier firm, or a business you launched and grew independently. You understand the gap between participation and genuine competition. Now consider channeling that discipline into work with K-12 students who've never encountered someone with credentials like yours—someone willing to push them toward benchmarks they didn't believe they could meet.

Alpha employs AI-driven 1:1 instruction that allows students to complete core academic work in roughly two hours daily. This structure creates space for the development of life skills, exploration of personal interests, and meaningful personal development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal track record establishes expectations: someone capable of managing group dynamics, establishing tone, and guiding them through resistance, lack of focus, and internal doubt.

Your role doesn't involve teaching content; it centers on coaching, challenging, and maintaining the same rigorous standards you've applied to yourself. You'll dedicate 80% of your time to direct one-on-one sessions, small-group coaching, and life-skills instruction. The remaining 20% involves setting daily expectations: disciplined morning sessions that build a culture where average performance is unacceptable.

This trajectory isn't designed around advancement into management. It's about developing expertise. You begin by mastering Alpha's approach and earning student trust. Within a few months, you become the person students trust enough to push them beyond perceived limits. The return isn't a new title. It's witnessing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to a room of adults in May.

If you're seeking a way to leverage your elite background toward impact beyond your own career record, apply now. If you require scripted curriculum, conventional classroom structure, or progression to administrative leadership, this isn't the right fit.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting one-on-one and small-group coaching that identifies individual obstacles, establishes challenging targets, and maintains accountability for execution
  • Leading structured life-skills instruction designed for competency development rather than engagement alone, drawing on authentic examples from your own high-performance background
  • Evaluating student competency using platforms such as Test2Pass and monitoring development through Coachbot data to refine coaching approaches in real time
  • Establishing campus-wide performance culture each morning via focused opening sessions that communicate and reinforce rigorous standards
  • Cultivating trusted mentorship with students and their families through consistent high expectations and documented development frameworks

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating lesson plans, developing curriculum materials, or evaluating academic assignments. Alpha's instructional system addresses that independently.
  • Presenting to full classrooms of 30 students. Your focus is intensive coaching in small settings, not large-group instruction.
  • Supervising other personnel or pursuing advancement into administration. This position centers on direct student outcomes, not organizational management.
  • Attending traditional faculty meetings or working through institutional bureaucracy. Your time remains concentrated on student interaction.
  • Reducing standards to achieve targets. If a student reaches 99%, your responsibility is understanding what prevented 100%.

Key responsibilities

Lead outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill competency at Alpha's most rigorous campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one documented instance of exceptional achievement in a highly competitive, internationally recognized field (examples: medals from national or international competitions, top-tier university with distinction, highly selective firm or fellowship, elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership positions where you demonstrably improved others' performance
  • Availability to work on-site at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; Orange County (Lake Forest), CA; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • History in elite competitive athletics (varsity D1, national team, or professional level) with coaching or mentoring experience for younger athletes
  • Professional background in high-accountability sectors such as management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Proven youth development work through mentorship in non-classroom contexts (community organizations, after-school programs, sports camps)
  • Confidence presenting to and establishing credibility with families accustomed to high standards and paying premium private school tuition
