Student Success Strategist   $150,000 USD/year

Description

You believe the greatest act of respect for a student is refusing to compromise standards. You have excelled, competed, or built something at a level most people only observe from a distance: elite-level athletics, a top-tier university with academic honors, a highly selective professional firm, or a company you launched and grew. Now imagine channeling that same intensity into a space filled with K-12 students who have never encountered someone with your credentials in their lives, holding them to benchmarks they didn't realize were within reach. If maintaining elite expectations feels overly demanding to you, this role is not a fit.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 learning to enable students to complete core academics in roughly two hours per day. The remainder of the day is dedicated to life skills, passion projects, and meaningful personal development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments establish the standard: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, shaping culture, and guiding students through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

Your role is not instructional. AI delivers the academic content. Your responsibility is to inspire, coach, and hold students to the same exacting standard you have applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time is spent in direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions that identify obstacles and establish ambitious objectives. Another forty percent involves facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, not engagement for its own sake. The final twenty percent is dedicated to morning kickoffs that set daily tone and reinforce a culture intolerant of mediocrity.

The trajectory here emphasizes depth over advancement. You begin by mastering Alpha's systems and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they rely on to push them beyond self-imposed limits. The payoff is not a title change. It is the privilege of working with the same students year after year, remaining a constant presence as they mature. It is observing a student who struggled with eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to adults in May.

This position remains student-centered. Students are the mission, not a pathway to other opportunities. If your motivation to leave your current role is the impact, not the credential, apply today.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify barriers, establish ambitious targets, and ensure accountability for execution
  • Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, drawing on authentic examples from your own elite background, and evaluating mastery through Alpha's Test2Pass assessment framework
  • Establishing daily cultural expectations each morning through focused kickoffs that reinforce high-performance standards campus-wide
  • Monitoring student progress continuously and modifying coaching approaches based on evidence, not intuition
  • Cultivating trusted mentor relationships with students and their families through consistent high standards, reliability, and formalized motivation strategies

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering lessons, creating curriculum, or evaluating assignments — Alpha's AI-powered academic platform manages instruction; your focus is motivation
  • Presenting to a classroom of 30 students (your work is intensive coaching in small groups, not large-scale instruction)
  • Supervising other staff or pursuing an administrative career path (this role centers on direct student outcomes, not organizational management)
  • Attending traditional faculty meetings or navigating institutional bureaucracy (your schedule prioritizes student engagement)
  • Compromising standards to meet quotas (if a student achieves 99%, your role is to identify what prevented 100%)

Key responsibilities

Drive outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's most rigorous campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized domain (examples: national or international competition medals, top-tier university with distinction, highly selective firm or fellowship, elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
  • At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership roles where you measurably raised others' performance
  • Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; San Francisco, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation support provided)
  • Legal right to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Background in elite competitive athletics (varsity D1, national team, or professional level) with experience coaching or mentoring younger athletes
  • Experience in high-accountability environments like management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Track record of youth development through mentoring in non-academic settings (community organizations, after-school programs, sports camps)
  • Comfort presenting to and building trust with high-expectation families paying premium private school tuition
