You have accomplished difficult things. You understand what it means to operate within genuine standards. You recognize the distinction between effort and results. If you are ready to apply that discipline in a setting where it alters a young person's future, this position was designed for you.

Alpha School leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction, enabling students to complete core academics in roughly two hours per day. This structure opens time for life skills development, pursuit of personal interests, and meaningful personal growth. At our most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor capable of assessing group dynamics, establishing expectations, and guiding them past resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

This is not a conventional teaching position. You will not deliver lectures, assign grades, or develop curriculum. Your work is coaching. You will facilitate high-rigor workshops on life skills. You will interpret data to identify what limits a student's progress, then guide them with precision and care until they execute.

If you hold a distinguished credential and a history of elevating others' performance, we are interested in speaking with you. Apply to contribute to a campus environment where students arrive prepared, develop meaningful competencies, and surpass challenging objectives.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitate 1:1 and small-group coaching that converts student aspirations into reliable execution and trackable outcomes
  • Leverage analytics and individual student objectives to identify barriers and design ambitious, tailored motivational strategies
  • Lead structured life-skills workshops grounded in authentic narrative, reflection, and practical application, then evaluate mastery
  • Conduct daily opening sessions that establish culture, uphold rigorous expectations, and prepare students before work begins
  • Build trusted mentoring relationships with students and their families by maintaining high standards, consistency, and thoughtful judgment

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver classroom instruction, lectures, or tutoring in a traditional educator capacity
  • Develop curriculum, write lesson plans, or evaluate student assignments
  • Supervise staff, oversee campus operations, or assume administrative leadership responsibilities
  • Compromise standards to achieve immediate compliance or superficial progress

Key responsibilities

Ensure students at Alpha's most demanding campuses remain deeply engaged and accomplish continuous growth and life-skill proficiency through elite, high-standards coaching.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • At least one verifiable elite marker (competitive athletics, distinguished academics, significant career accomplishment, or elite-level coaching)
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring, coaching, or leadership roles that produced measurable improvement in others' performance
  • Capability to function effectively in high-accountability settings with explicit standards and consistent follow-through
  • Skill in facilitating compelling, rigorous group sessions and providing one-on-one coaching with sound judgment
  • Commitment to full-time, in-person work at an Alpha campus: San Francisco, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; or New York City, NY
  • Authorization to work legally in the U.S.

Nice to have

  • Track record of applying data and analytics to inform coaching strategies and accountability frameworks
  • History in competitive firms, high-performing startups, or elite athletic programs characterized by rigorous performance standards
