Leadership Development Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

  • On-campus at Alpha School locations: New York City, NY · Orange County (Lake Forest), CA · San Francisco, CA · Santa Barbara, CA
  • $150,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Health benefits begin immediately.
  • Support for relocation provided

You've reached the top tier of an intensely competitive arena. Whether through elite sports, graduating with honors from a top university, working at a highly selective organization, or launching your own successful venture, you understand what separates participation from true competition. Consider channeling that drive into working directly with K-12 students who have never encountered someone with credentials like yours—someone ready to hold them to standards they never imagined they could meet.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction that allows students to complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. This structure opens the remainder of each day for life-skills development, passion projects, and meaningful personal growth. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than basic oversight. They need a credible mentor whose personal track record establishes the benchmark: someone capable of reading group dynamics, establishing expectations, and guiding them through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

Your role is not to instruct academics; it is to coach, challenge, and maintain the same rigorous standards you've applied to your own achievements. You will dedicate 80% of your time to direct 1-on-1 coaching, small-group sessions, and life-skills instruction. The remaining 20% involves setting daily expectations through purposeful morning sessions that cultivate a culture where average performance is unacceptable.

Advancement here is not about managerial progression. It is about mastery. You begin by learning Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they rely on to push them beyond perceived limits. The return is not a title. It is seeing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to a room of adults in May.

If you are seeking a way to make your elite credentials matter beyond personal accomplishment, submit your application now. If you require a pre-built curriculum, a conventional classroom, or a trajectory toward administration, this role is not the right fit.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching that identifies personal obstacles, establishes ambitious objectives, and maintains accountability for execution
  • Leading structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery rather than engagement, drawing on authentic examples from your own high-achievement background
  • Evaluating student proficiency using platforms such as Test2Pass and monitoring development through Coachbot analytics to refine coaching approaches dynamically
  • Establishing campus-wide cultural expectations each morning via focused opening sessions that reinforce performance standards
  • Developing trusted relationships with students and families by maintaining high standards, demonstrating consistency, and creating documented growth plans

What you will NOT be doing

  • Developing lesson plans, creating curriculum content, or evaluating assignments. Alpha's academic system operates independently.
  • Presenting material to large classroom groups of 30 students. Your focus is intensive coaching with individuals and small groups, not traditional instruction.
  • Supervising other employees or pursuing administrative advancement. This position centers on direct student influence, not organizational management.
  • Attending lengthy faculty meetings or dealing with institutional bureaucracy. Your schedule remains student-centered.
  • Compromising standards to achieve numerical targets. If a student reaches 99%, your responsibility is determining what prevented 100%.

Key responsibilities

Drive exceptional student motivation, growth, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's highest-expectation campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized domain (examples: national or international competition medals, top-tier university with distinction, highly selective firm or fellowship, elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
  • At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership roles where you measurably raised others' performance
  • Willingness to work in-person at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; Orange County (Lake Forest), CA; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
  • Legal right to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Background in elite competitive athletics (varsity D1, national team, or professional level) with experience coaching or mentoring younger athletes
  • Experience in high-accountability environments like management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Track record of youth development through mentoring in non-academic settings (community organizations, after-school programs, sports camps)
  • Comfort presenting to and building trust with high-expectation families paying premium private school tuition
