Innovation Coach   $150,000 USD/year

Description

You understand that holding students to the highest standard is the most generous thing you can offer. Your background includes competing, creating, or excelling at a level few people reach: elite-level athletics, graduation from a top university with honors, employment at a highly competitive firm, or a company you founded yourself. Now imagine channeling that discipline into a classroom of K-12 learners who have never encountered someone like you—someone ready to push them toward benchmarks they never imagined achieving. If you think demanding excellence from students is too much, this isn't for you.

Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction so students complete core academics in roughly two hours per day. The remaining time is devoted to life skills, self-directed projects, and meaningful development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose own record establishes what's possible: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, shaping culture, and guiding students through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.

You won't be teaching. AI delivers the academic instruction. Your role is to inspire, coach, and enforce the same rigorous standard you've applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time is spent in direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions that identify obstacles and define stretch goals. Another forty percent involves facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, not engagement. The final twenty percent is devoted to morning sessions that set daily expectations and build a campus culture where mediocrity has no place.

The trajectory here emphasizes depth, not advancement into management. You begin by mastering Alpha's framework and earning student trust. Within a few months, you become the person students allow to challenge them beyond their perceived limits. The payoff isn't a title change. It's continuity with the same students year after year, growing alongside them. It's seeing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to a room of adults by May.

This position remains student-centered. Students are the purpose, not a platform for career advancement elsewhere. If you're looking to leave your current role because of the mission, not the credential, apply now.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions leveraging Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify obstacles, establish ambitious targets, and ensure accountability for execution
  • Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery by drawing on credible examples from your own high-level experience, then evaluating mastery using Alpha's Test2Pass framework
  • Establishing the daily cultural standard each morning through focused kickoff sessions that communicate high-performance expectations campus-wide
  • Monitoring student progress in real time and refining coaching approaches based on data, not intuition
  • Developing trusted mentoring relationships with students and their families through consistent high standards and documented motivation strategies

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering lessons, creating curriculum, or evaluating assignments — Alpha's AI-based academic platform manages instruction; you manage motivation
  • Addressing a classroom of 30 students (your work is high-contact coaching in small settings, not large-group instruction)
  • Supervising other staff or pursuing an administrative career path (this role focuses on direct student impact, not organizational structure)
  • Attending faculty meetings or dealing with school bureaucracy (your time remains dedicated to students)
  • Reducing standards to meet targets (if a student achieves 99%, your task is to understand what prevented 100%)

Key responsibilities

Lead outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's most demanding campuses.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one instance of exceptional achievement in a highly selective, globally recognized domain (examples: national or international competition medals, top-tier university with distinction, highly selective firm or fellowship, elite performing arts institution, or founding and scaling a successful venture)
  • At least 3 years of experience in student coaching, youth mentoring, athletic coaching, or leadership roles where you measurably raised others' performance
  • Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; San Francisco, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation support provided)
  • Legal right to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Background in elite competitive athletics (varsity D1, national team, or professional level) with experience coaching or mentoring younger athletes
  • Experience in high-accountability environments like management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
  • Track record of youth development through mentoring in non-academic settings (community organizations, after-school programs, sports camps)
  • Comfort presenting to and building trust with high-expectation families paying premium private school tuition
