Spatial Design Specialist   $100,000 USD/year

Description

You understand immediately when a space feels premium versus improvised. You register lighting color temperature, visual clutter, cable management, seating arrangements, and atmosphere—and you can't ignore what doesn't work. If you're interested in establishing the look and feel of a "high-performance school," this opportunity offers that influence.

2 Hour Learning is developing AI-powered private schools where students complete core academics in two hours daily, then engage in life skills and passion-based learning each afternoon. As campuses grow nationwide, the physical spaces must reflect the vision: composed, deliberate, unconventional, and distinctly premium. This position defines that benchmark and ensures its consistent application across all locations.

You will establish the design direction, transform it into floor plans that move beyond conventional classroom structures, and document standards to maintain brand integrity during expansion. This is not about managing external suppliers or overseeing facility operations. It is focused, high-caliber design execution within practical constraints and with clear accountability.

If you possess the discernment to shape a category and the efficiency to deliver without compromising quality, we want to hear from you.

What you will be doing

  • Developing comprehensive campus design vision documents (philosophy, visual references, material selections, lighting specifications, furnishing guidelines) that communicate premium positioning and reject conventional school aesthetics
  • Generating detailed spatial plans that support adaptable learning areas, intuitive circulation, and unified lighting and environmental strategies
  • Establishing and curating design standards and parameters that ensure uniformity across all campuses while accommodating varied building configurations
  • Executing rapid refinement cycles on active campuses by identifying improvement opportunities and producing ordered action lists that enhance finish quality without disrupting opening schedules

What you will NOT be doing

  • Coordinating vendors, identifying contractors, or handling purchasing processes
  • Supervising construction activities, maintenance tasks, or senior-level facility management
  • Producing conventional "attractive" private school interiors with saturated primary palettes and institutional surface treatments
  • Pursuing ideal outcomes at the expense of launch schedules

Key responsibilities

This position ensures that each campus opens and develops with a category-defining, premium, unconventional physical environment that maintains consistency at scale.

Candidate requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in interior, spatial, environmental, or experiential design
  • Portfolio demonstrating premium physical environments (examples: hospitality, luxury residential, boutique commercial, cruise ship, or experiential projects)
  • Demonstrated capability to independently produce mood boards and comprehensive concept direction for physical spaces
  • Demonstrated capability to develop spatial layouts that enhance flow, density, and user experience
  • Advanced material and lighting fluency (surface finishes, texture, lighting color temperature, and their emotional impact)
  • Superior aesthetic judgment with documented examples of restraint, proportion, and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with AI design tools or clear evidence of quickly adopting emerging design technologies
  • Authorization to work in the United States in a hybrid arrangement requiring 50–70% campus travel

Nice to have

  • Background designing scalable multi-location environments with established standards and replicable frameworks
  • Background designing unconventional learning, community, or wellness environments with adaptable seating configurations
  • Advanced rapid visualization/rendering capabilities that accelerate concept iteration and stakeholder decision-making
