Vice President of Product Engineering   $400,000 USD/year

Description

Are you a technically accomplished product leader ready to pioneer the AI-driven transformation of education? 2 Hour Learning seeks a technical architect to spearhead the evolution of our AI-powered learning platform. This position demands someone with the engineering depth to function as a CTO, the strategic product vision to champion transformational initiatives, and the drive to channel those capabilities toward unlocking student achievement at scale.

Most organizations append AI to conventional education frameworks as an add-on. At 2 Hour Learning, we've taken a fundamentally different approach: we've reconstructed the school model from its foundation, leveraging AI and learning science to eliminate the limitations of traditional classroom instruction. Our students don't merely progress — they excel, earning multiple 4s and 5s on AP exams, demonstrating multi-year academic advancement within a single year, and routinely surpassing their own expectations. We've validated that when AI serves as the foundational operating system for learning, student performance accelerates dramatically.

This is not a conventional product management position centered on customer feedback cycles or iterative feature rollouts. This is an executive-level technical product ownership role, where you will control the architecture, technical direction, and AI integration across our complete learning ecosystem. You'll be accountable for the critical technical tradeoffs that keep our products streamlined, scalable, and laser-focused on advancing student outcomes. You will reason like a CTO yet execute like a product entrepreneur, fusing engineering rigor with learning science principles to continuously deliver breakthroughs.

If you are prepared to lead the technical reimagination of education and possess the operational discipline to realize that vision, we invite you to apply. This is your chance to shape the future of learning.

What you will be doing

  • Cultivating and applying comprehensive education product knowledge to inform strategic choices
  • Creating technical specifications that establish key technical decisions while emphasizing simplicity, operational efficiency, and sustainable design
  • Deploying generative AI capabilities to automate and optimize engineering workflows, consistent with the overarching goal of minimizing manual effort

What you will NOT be doing

  • Pure people management; your technical depth and business insight will be the defining aspects of this role
  • Spending time on meetings, committees, and bureaucratic processes; we have streamlined management overhead so you can concentrate on generating business impact through direct contributions
  • Abstract strategies lacking actionable implementation details; your guidance must be grounded in product-level understanding

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the CTO for one or more education products, commanding core capabilities and generating business value through flawless execution and strategic leadership

Candidate requirements

  • 7+ years of experience driving critical architecture and design decisions on software projects, including the application of architecture design patterns or major open source technologies
  • 2+ years of experience making design decisions involving the use of cloud computing services (primarily AWS)
  • 4+ years of experience in roles with complete technical and delivery ownership on a revenue-generating product
  • Experience using AI agents to design, implement, and test software products or features
