Director of Product Architecture   $400,000 USD/year

Description

This role is for a deeply technical product leader prepared to spearhead the transformation of education through artificial intelligence. 2 Hour Learning seeks a technical architect to drive the evolution of our AI-enabled learning platform. We need someone with the engineering depth to function as a chief technology officer, the strategic foresight to catalyze systemic innovation, and the commitment to deploy these capabilities toward unlocking student achievement at scale.

Many organizations add AI to conventional education frameworks as a superficial enhancement. 2 Hour Learning has taken a fundamentally different approach: we have reconstructed the educational model from its foundation, leveraging AI and cognitive science to eliminate the limitations inherent in traditional schooling. The results speak for themselves—our students consistently excel, earning numerous 4s and 5s on Advanced Placement exams, demonstrating academic gains spanning multiple years within a single academic cycle, and routinely exceeding their own performance expectations. We have demonstrated that when AI serves as the foundational infrastructure of learning, student success accelerates dramatically.

This position diverges from conventional product management roles centered on user feedback iteration or gradual feature rollouts. You will assume technical product ownership at the executive tier, taking full accountability for the architectural blueprint, technology roadmap, and AI integration across our learning ecosystem. Your mandate includes making critical engineering tradeoffs that keep our solutions efficient, scalable, and laser-focused on elevating student performance. You will combine the strategic mindset of a CTO with the operational velocity of a product entrepreneur, merging software engineering discipline with learning science principles to generate continuous innovation.

If you are prepared to lead the technical transformation of education and possess the implementation tenacity to realize that vision, we invite your application. This is an opportunity to architect the next generation of learning.

What you will be doing

  • Building and maintaining authoritative expertise in education product domains to inform high-stakes strategic choices
  • Creating technical specifications that codify critical architectural decisions while emphasizing simplicity, operational efficiency, and sustainable design
  • Deploying generative AI capabilities to automate and optimize engineering workflows, supporting the organizational objective of minimizing manual effort

What you will NOT be doing

  • Managing teams as your primary function; this role demands your business judgment and technical expertise above all
  • Spending time in meetings, committee work, or administrative overhead; we have streamlined managerial processes so you can concentrate on generating business impact through direct execution
  • Proposing high-level strategy without actionable implementation paths; your guidance must emerge from deep product-level understanding

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the chief technology officer for one or more education products, taking ownership of foundational capabilities and creating business value through flawless execution and strategic leadership

Candidate requirements

  • Substantial experience or demonstrated interest in evidence-based learning science
  • 7+ years of experience driving critical architecture and design decisions on software initiatives, including application of architectural patterns or adoption of major open source frameworks
  • 2+ years of experience making design decisions that leverage cloud computing platforms (predominantly AWS)
  • 4+ years of experience in roles with complete technical and delivery accountability for a product generating revenue
  • Proven track record building product capabilities that leverage advanced Generative AI techniques
  • Demonstrated experience applying Generative AI to streamline operational workflows
