SVP of Space and Design   $400,000 USD/year

Description

If you’ve ever walked into a space and thought, “This is exactly how it should feel,” and then asked yourself how to make that experience repeatable across 100 sites, this role is built for you. We’re not looking for a concept designer. We’re looking for the systems thinker who can build a national function that consistently delivers premium, branded, and pedagogically aligned environments at scale.

At 2 Hour Learning, our model flips the school day on its head. Two hours of focused academics. The rest of the day for passion, movement, and real-world learning. That radical shift demands spaces that are just as intentional — and we need someone to lead the charge. You’ll architect the systems, standards, and teams that ensure every campus delivers on that promise. You’ll manage a growing team of regional design leads and vendors, align priorities across teams, and identify the design innovations that move the needle on experience, perception, and retention.

This isn’t a creative ivory tower role. You’ll be on the ground, mentoring team members, auditing installs, and refining the playbook in real time. You’ll build the engine that scales excellent environments — and make sure it runs.

What you will be doing

  • Build and lead a national Space & Design function, including team structure, vendor network, and performance systems
  • Define and evolve modular standards, visual identity, and documentation to support consistent rollout across diverse campuses
  • Align design investments with CapEx strategy, enrollment growth, and operational constraints through data-informed planning
  • Identify, pilot, and scale design innovations that improve student experience, parent perception, and staff satisfaction
  • Serve as a strategic partner to cross-functional leaders

What you will NOT be doing

  • Designing spaces by hand — your job is to scale the people and systems who do
  • Chasing one-off upgrades or vanity projects — all work is tied to real outcomes and ROI
  • Operating as a siloed creative lead — this role is deeply embedded in planning, execution, and performance
  • Delegating from a distance — you’ll travel often to stay close to real-world execution and team development
  • Maintaining the status quo — you’ll be expected to evolve and upgrade the function itself

Key responsibilities

Build and lead a scalable design function that ensures every campus delivers a premium, brand-aligned, and pedagogically supportive environment — with measurable impact on experience, enrollment, and retention.

Candidate requirements

  • 8+ years owning physical environments across a multi-site organization, with at least 25+ locations
  • Firsthand experience designing spaces for UHNW clients or luxury brands, with the ability to recognize premium quality through every detail
  • Proven ability to build and lead a team, manage external partners, and structure a national rollout function
  • Experience creating and evolving standards-based design systems for diverse site types
  • Strategic planning ability with cross-functional teams
  • Strong taste and judgment, paired with operational and financial discipline
  • Located in the U.S., eligible to work without visa sponsorship, and able to travel 50% or more

Nice to have

  • Background in fast-scaling, brand-sensitive environments such as boutique hospitality, premium retail, or networked education
  • Portfolio demonstrating both physical design excellence and the ability to scale systems across a portfolio
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting to executives, boards, or investors
