Instructional Designer   $100,000 USD/year

Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a full-time, in-person employee role located at our Austin, Texas campus. Transform Education Where It Matters Most: Life Skills That Last a Lifetime At Alpha Schools, 8-year-olds confidently pitch business ideas to venture capitalists and 10-year-olds deliver TED-style talks that captivate adult audiences. This isn't education as usual—it's the future we're building today. As our Instructional Designer, you'll harness cutting-edge AI to craft revolutionary workshops, test your innovations with actual students, and collaborate with education visionaries who refuse to accept the status quo. You'll transcend traditional curriculum development by focusing on practical life skills that traditional education neglects. With significant autonomy and a mandate for innovation, you'll leverage technology and data-driven methodologies to continuously elevate your designs. Join Alpha Schools and become the architect of educational experiences that prepare children for real-world success.

What you will be doing

  • Develop a comprehensive K-8 life skills curriculum that equips students with exceptional public speaking abilities, compelling storytelling techniques, entrepreneurial mindsets, and financial acumen
  • Design objective assessment systems using standardized testing methodologies to establish baselines, track progress, and measure mastery in non-traditional educational domains
  • Pilot and refine workshop designs through direct student engagement, campus observations, and structured feedback collection from both students and parents
  • Expand your expertise through rigorous research, analysis of best practices, and identification of emerging trends to generate breakthrough educational approaches
  • Partner with facilitators and team members to ensure workshop execution consistently exceeds quality benchmarks and achieves defined learning objectives

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating superficial activities that prioritize entertainment without substantive skill development
  • Designing curriculum that underestimates children's cognitive capabilities and learning potential
  • Developing theoretical content disconnected from practical, real-world applications
  • Producing passive learning experiences that fail to engage students as active participants
  • Implementing assessment methods that measure academic memorization rather than practical skill mastery

Key responsibilities

Create and implement a rigorous, engaging life skills curriculum that empowers children to achieve seemingly impossible feats for their age, directly contributing to exceptional student outcomes and unparalleled parent satisfaction.

Candidate requirements

  • Physical presence required at Alpha's Austin campus (non-negotiable)
  • Bachelor's degree in any field of study
  • Minimum 1 year experience designing educational activities, workshops, or training programs
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze qualitative feedback from educational program participants
  • Advanced proficiency with generative AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity) for independent project execution
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
