Description

REQUIRED: Valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate and Arizona Residency.

What if your Special Education knowledge could go beyond ensuring compliance—and truly contribute to reimagining education?

Unbound Academy has reconstructed school from the foundation. We are the first tuition-free virtual charter school where students achieve academic mastery in only two hours daily through adaptive AI—leaving afternoons open for immersive, experiential learning. Our Guides don't lecture. They mentor, motivate, and facilitate hands-on workshops covering storytelling, entrepreneurship, design, wellness, and beyond. We now seek a Special Education professional capable of both: guiding students toward life preparedness and managing our IEP program with rigor.

This position is designed for the SPED educator who has comprehensive experience. You've managed your own classroom—and you've also been the person drafting, revising, and overseeing IEPs on the administrative side. You understand what compliance demands and how to keep students front and center. You reside in Arizona and hold full certification. Above all, you're motivated by the prospect of impactful work—not administrative overload—in a school that genuinely equips kids for the real world.

If you're prepared to leave behind the bureaucracy and approach SPED with a fresh perspective, this is your opportunity to create something meaningful.

What you will be doing

  • Drafting, revising, and overseeing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in complete accordance with Arizona state standards
  • Managing accommodations and compliance responsibilities throughout a flexible virtual learning environment
  • Facilitating engaging, application-focused virtual workshops on subjects such as entrepreneurship, storytelling, or wellness
  • Mentoring SPED students individually and in small groups to develop confidence, executive functioning, and independence
  • Partnering with our school team to refine how we support and empower diverse learners

What you will NOT be doing

  • Providing traditional classroom instruction—our AI tutors manage that
  • Operating in isolation from student interaction—you'll be directly involved with learners
  • Devoting your time to redundant paperwork, meetings, or excessive oversight
  • Adhering to a standardized teaching framework—this is personalized, responsive education

Key responsibilities

Oversee the creation, implementation, and compliance of all IEPs while involving students in meaningful, life-skill-focused virtual learning experiences.

Candidate requirements

  • Reside in Arizona
  • Hold a valid Arizona Special Education teaching certification
  • Minimum 3 years of experience writing and updating IEPs
  • Experience coordinating accommodations and handling SPED compliance tasks
  • Prior experience working with students aged 8–14
  • Strong virtual presence and communication skills; on-camera confidence is essential
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, tech-powered school environment
