Special Education Instructor   $60,000 USD/year

Description

MANDATORY: Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate and Arizona Residency.

Imagine if your expertise in Special Education could transcend mere compliance and help transform the educational landscape.

At Unbound Academy, we’ve revolutionized the concept of schooling. As the premier virtual, tuition-free charter school, we empower students to master academics in just two hours daily through adaptive AI, leaving their afternoons free for immersive, hands-on learning experiences. Our Guides don’t lecture; they inspire, coach, and lead engaging workshops that teach storytelling, entrepreneurship, design, wellness, and more. We are searching for a Special Education professional who can not only guide students towards life readiness but also meticulously manage our IEP program.

This role is perfect for the seasoned SPED teacher. You’ve managed your own classroom and have been the key player in drafting, updating, and coordinating IEPs. You’re adept at maintaining compliance while prioritizing student-centered approaches. Residing in Arizona with full certification, you are driven by the prospect of meaningful work in a school that truly prepares kids for life beyond the classroom.

If you’re eager to break free from bureaucratic constraints and redefine SPED, seize this opportunity to create something remarkable.

What you will be doing

  • Crafting, revising, and overseeing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in strict accordance with Arizona state mandates
  • Managing accommodations and compliance within a vibrant virtual learning space
  • Facilitating engaging, real-world virtual workshops on topics such as entrepreneurship, storytelling, and wellness
  • Providing one-on-one and small group coaching to SPED students, fostering their confidence, executive functioning, and self-guidance
  • Collaborating with our team to innovate and enhance support for exceptional learners

What you will NOT be doing

  • Delivering conventional academic lessons—our AI tutors take care of that
  • Isolating yourself from the classroom environment—you’ll be actively involved with students
  • Spending your time on redundant paperwork, meetings, or micromanagement
  • Adhering to a generic teaching model—this is customized, agile education

Key responsibilities

Oversee the creation, implementation, and compliance of all IEPs while engaging students in transformative, life-skill-building virtual experiences.

Candidate requirements

  • Arizona residency is required
  • Possession of a valid Arizona Special Education teaching certification
  • At least 3 years of experience in drafting and updating IEPs
  • Experience in coordinating accommodations and managing SPED compliance
  • Previous experience with students aged 8–14
  • Strong virtual presence and communication skills; confidence on camera is crucial
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, technology-driven school setting
