Reading Interventionist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize the shift. The instant a learner moves from guessing to reading with intention. They meet your eyes and say, "I can do this." If that's what you want to experience daily, this is the right place.

Unbound is a remote-first online school designed for genuine progress, not time logged. We're rethinking student learning so they advance more quickly, find joy in the journey, and graduate with measurable confidence.

In most weeks, you'll facilitate high-impact intervention sessions. During the remainder, you'll conduct brief motivation check-ins that keep learners on course and reaching milestones. This position fits those who value independence, rapid feedback cycles, and visible results. It's unsuitable for anyone seeking a rigid script or uncomfortable with data-driven work.

If you're committed to helping struggling readers achieve substantial progress—and you want the flexibility to customize your methods for each learner—we'd welcome the conversation.

What you will be doing

  • Create and facilitate virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for learners in grades 3–8
  • Apply reading assessment data to identify fluency and comprehension deficits and modify instruction rapidly
  • Tailor activities across varied reading levels, including accommodations for dyslexia and associated reading challenges
  • Monitor progress in a clear, systematic manner and leverage the data to inform subsequent sessions
  • Conduct structured motivation check-ins that foster confidence, perseverance, and pride in development

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large, whole-class lessons or present from a static curriculum
  • Adhere to a pre-scripted program without responding to student needs and live feedback
  • Serve as a passive "software monitor" without substantive instruction and relationship-building
  • Depend on superficial rewards that fail to cultivate enduring motivation

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of outcomes for grades 3–8—quantifiable improvements in fluency and comprehension—through personalized virtual interventions and motivational support that cultivates confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Available to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona as needed.
