Reading Intervention Specialist   $60,000 USD/year

Description

You recognize that shift. The instant a learner stops fumbling and begins reading with intention. Their eyes meet yours and they say, "I've got this." If that's the kind of work you want every day, this is your place.

Unbound is a remote-first online school focused on genuine progress, not clock-watching. We're rethinking student learning to accelerate development, improve engagement, and build measurable confidence.

Most of your time will be spent conducting high-impact intervention sessions. The remainder will involve leading brief motivational check-ins that maintain momentum and support goal achievement. This position is ideal for individuals who value independence, immediate feedback, and visible results. It's not suited to those seeking rigid lesson plans or who avoid working with performance data.

If you're ready to support struggling readers in achieving substantial progress—and you value the flexibility to customize your methods for each learner—let's connect.

What you will be doing

  • Plan and conduct virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for students in grades 3–8
  • Analyze reading assessment data to identify fluency and comprehension deficits and modify instruction accordingly
  • Adapt learning activities across varying reading levels, including accommodations for dyslexia and similar reading challenges
  • Monitor student progress systematically and apply findings to inform upcoming sessions
  • Facilitate structured motivational check-ins that foster confidence, resilience, and pride in achievement

What you will NOT be doing

  • Deliver large, full-class instruction or present from a standardized curriculum
  • Execute a scripted program rigidly without responding to individual student needs and live feedback
  • Function as a passive technology supervisor without providing substantive instruction and rapport
  • Depend on superficial incentives that fail to cultivate enduring motivation

Key responsibilities

Take ownership of outcomes for grades 3–8—quantifiable improvements in fluency and comprehension—through customized virtual interventions and motivational coaching that develops student confidence.

Candidate requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
  • Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
  • Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
  • Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
  • Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
  • Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
  • Available to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona as needed.
