Director of Family Engagement   $200,000 USD/year

Description

Santa Barbara families shape the culture. They do not follow it.

Alpha is opening a campus in one of California's most discerning, relationship-centric communities. This is not another private school competing on facilities. Students complete core academic work in two concentrated hours using AI-driven learning platforms, then dedicate the remainder of their day to cultivating public speaking ability, critical reasoning, and practical execution. Outcomes position students in the top 1% nationally. The approach is proven. The challenge is whether it can gain traction here.

From year zero through year one, this is a ground-up enrollment leadership position. In Santa Barbara, that requires building credibility within tightly connected social networks where reputation multiplies and errors persist. You will design intimate information sessions, conduct private campus visits, engage families in one-on-one dialogues, and strategically assemble the founding cohort. After enrollment targets are met and an admissions director is onboarded, your role transitions to the campus's principal parent-facing leader, maintaining alignment and converting satisfied families into vocal advocates within their circles.

This is not a transactional sales function. It is relationship-building at an elite level. You must command credibility with families who have access to any school nationwide and who demand substantive responses to challenging questions about AI, technology exposure, and long-term student trajectories. A single poorly aligned family can disrupt a 25-student cohort. Selectivity is essential.

If you are prepared to establish something exceptional in a market that values sophistication, discretion, and measurable outcomes, this role is yours to claim.

What you will be doing

  • Manage the complete enrollment pipeline from initial inquiry through signed enrollment agreements until 25 students are confirmed
  • Design and deliver curated information sessions and private campus tours that attract aligned families while filtering out mismatched candidates
  • Establish visibility and credibility through consistent in-person outreach, private consultations, and strategic community alliances throughout Santa Barbara
  • Function as the principal point of contact for families, providing elevated, white-glove service
  • Articulate and confidently defend Alpha's AI-powered educational model to discerning, critical parents

What you will NOT be doing

  • Maintaining standard 9–5 hours; this position demands availability in mornings, afternoons, and selected evenings
  • Depending on a robust admissions or marketing infrastructure to generate your leads
  • Enrolling every applicant to meet quotas; safeguarding cohort quality supersedes volume targets
  • Operating primarily from an office; sustained physical presence in the community is non-negotiable

Key responsibilities

Recruit and enroll a founding cohort of 25 students in Santa Barbara, then nurture parent engagement and advocacy to fuel ongoing, referral-driven expansion.

Candidate requirements

  • Currently reside within commuting range of Santa Barbara or prepared to relocate within 60 days
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship
  • 5+ years serving high-net-worth clientele in consultative sales or premium client engagement settings (private school admissions, luxury services, hospitality, philanthropy, etc.)
  • Proven track record managing sales or enrollment pipelines with measurable conversion outcomes
  • Executive-level presence and communication abilities appropriate for affluent, highly educated audiences
  • Self-directed entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable working autonomously in an early-stage campus setting
  • Strong belief in AI-powered education and readiness to address reservations about screen time and non-conventional educational approaches
  • Flexible availability including early mornings (7–9am), late afternoons (2–4pm), evening programming (2–3x monthly), and occasional weekend engagements

Nice to have

  • Existing network within the Santa Barbara or Montecito area
  • Leadership experience in private or independent school admissions
  • Professional history in luxury real estate, development, or major donor cultivation
  • Startup or early-stage venture experience
  • Experience producing upscale events or developing community partnerships
