Director of Community Engagement   $200,000 USD/year

Description

Santa Barbara families do not chase trends. They create them.

Alpha is opening a new campus in one of California's most discerning, network-oriented communities. This is not a conventional private school relying on facilities to compete. Students complete their core academic work in two concentrated hours using AI-driven learning platforms, then dedicate the remainder of the day to developing public speaking ability, critical reasoning, and practical execution skills. Performance outcomes position students in the top 1% nationally. The educational approach is proven. The challenge is whether it can build credibility here.

From year zero through year one, this role centers on enrollment leadership starting from the ground up. In Santa Barbara, that requires building trust within closely connected social networks where reputation accumulates and errors endure. You will design exclusive information sessions, conduct private campus visits, engage families in individual meetings, and carefully assemble the founding cohort. After enrollment goals are met and an admissions director is brought on, your focus transitions to serving as the campus's lead parent relations executive, maintaining mission alignment and converting satisfied families into vocal advocates within their circles.

This is not a volume-driven sales position. It is relationship cultivation at an elite level. You must be credible with families who have access to any educational option in the nation and who expect substantive responses to rigorous questions about AI integration, screen exposure, and developmental outcomes. A single poorly matched family can compromise a 25-student cohort. Selectivity is mission-critical.

If you are prepared to establish something exceptional in a market that values refinement, discretion, and measurable results, this is the role.

What you will be doing

  • Lead the complete enrollment process from initial inquiry through signed enrollment contracts until 25 students are confirmed
  • Design and facilitate targeted information sessions and private campus tours that attract aligned families while filtering out incompatible applicants
  • Establish visibility and credibility through consistent face-to-face networking, individual family meetings, and strategic community alliances throughout Santa Barbara
  • Act as the principal point of contact for prospective and enrolled families, providing elevated, concierge-style engagement
  • Effectively communicate and defend Alpha's AI-enhanced educational model to discerning, questioning parents

What you will NOT be doing

  • Maintaining a standard 9–5 routine; early mornings, afternoons, and occasional evenings are essential
  • Depending on an extensive admissions or marketing infrastructure to generate leads
  • Enrolling every candidate to meet numerical targets; safeguarding cohort integrity takes priority over enrollment volume
  • Operating primarily from an office; this position demands regular, active community presence

Key responsibilities

Recruit and enroll a founding cohort of 25 students in Santa Barbara, then foster parent commitment and advocacy to sustain referral-driven, long-term growth.

Candidate requirements

  • Currently reside within commuting range of Santa Barbara or prepared to relocate within 60 days
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship
  • 5+ years of professional experience serving high-net-worth clientele in consultative sales or premium client service capacities (private school admissions, luxury services, hospitality, philanthropy, etc.)
  • Proven track record managing a sales or enrollment pipeline with documented conversion outcomes
  • Executive-level presence and communication abilities appropriate for affluent, well-educated families
  • Self-motivated entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable working independently in an early-stage campus setting
  • Strong belief in AI-driven education and readiness to address concerns regarding screen time and alternative educational structures
  • Flexibility for early morning availability (7–9am), late afternoon commitments (2–4pm), evening engagements (2–3x monthly), and periodic weekend participation

Nice to have

  • Existing network and relationships in the Santa Barbara or Montecito area
  • Leadership experience in private or independent school admissions
  • Professional history in luxury real estate, development, or major donor fundraising
  • Startup or early-stage venture experience
  • Track record planning upscale events or building community partnerships
